I have been working at Kohl's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Competitive and wages
    Exclusive discounts
    Coworkers were nice
Fun at times okay I guess not really much else of pros

    Cons

Managers will train you for 1 day then expect you to know everything even if you never worked retail before, then yell at you and embarrass you in front of customers once you make a mistake. Don't bother to correct you or make something a learning experience. Rude to customers at times and other employees. Management will act like they're the best thing walking around there and our store is the best in the area but once the regional manager comes in almost everyone loses their mind . Why? Because we're not prepared for anything and nothing is organized already. Terrible place to work, might be better at other stores. Pressure you to get credit and your incentive? A pizza party / sweet treat day? Not in middle school, no thanks.

    Advice to Management

Maybe make sure your employees are well trained before you leave them on the registers by themselves

    Pros

Benefits are good 3 weeks vacation

    Cons

Work schedule never consistent. Work 50 hour weeks. Get off at 11 just to come back to open store at 6am. This job will stress you out!!!!!

    Advice to Management

I'm a assistant store manager. Upper management only care about numbers not you personally

    I worked at Kohl's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the best employees that have been working for years. Definitely put their time in.

    Cons

New management, mircromanaging. Very rude to associates. Talks to them in a sarcastic and realistic manner. Belittles associates. Has favorites/pets that he shows favoritism to. An assistant manager that he treats differently from any other manager, especially when it comes to when things are done incorrectly or in an untimely manner.

    Advice to Management

Do not move up to a higher position. There should be an ethics training for managers on how they are to treat their supervisors and other associates and not show favorites or act buddy buddy with people that he brought over from their other store.

    I worked at Kohl's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Positive focus on work-life balance.

    Cons

Employees who work directly with customers are located in a building miles away from the actual corporate headquarters, depriving them of networking opportunities and leading to a a culture that does not typically view them as career employees.

    Advice to Management

Give low-level employees - particularly those working in collections and customer service - motivation beyond simply trying to meet their quotas and keep their jobs.

I have been working at Kohl's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Employee discount is the only reason to work at Kohl's

    Cons

Pay is lower than low. The answer to your question changes depending on whom you ask and when. Then the store manager has been known to call you out in front of other staff and yes... in front of customers. No acknowledgement when you take on extra hours and assignments. Inventory management is not happening, the floors are overstocked and the stockrooms are overflowing with product. Often we can't get it on the floor before it goes clearance.

    Advice to Management

Get a clue, when stores like Wal-Mart, Target, Menards, etc. all looked better and are easier to shop, where ya gonna shop????

    Pros

Great people to work with in my origional store. Nice discounts.

    Cons

Part time-positions, low pay. They would rather hire a bunch of part-time college students than pay out insurance premiumums for a full-time employee...but I guess that is retail for ya.

    Advice to Management

Cut back on the part-time positions and hire some full-time employees. Don't be cheap, pay out a little for insurance benefits

    Pros

Quick paced, great team atmosphere with other sales floor associates

    Cons

Rarely a day off, would call you in constantly on days you would have off, sometimes you find yourself carrying the store

    Advice to Management

Open and clear communication with associates and making sure you're spreading extra hours evenly among other associates

I have been working at Kohl's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Managers are nice and they try to help out. You can get days off if you request 2-3 weeks in advance. A couple times out of the year you do get a decent discount on some brands and can add other coupons on top of your employee discount. You are paid weekly. The dress code is decent for retail and you have more freedom to wear comfortable clothes than Sears or JcP. They use online schedules/time cards so you can check your hours from home. I do feel they are welcoming to employees of all races/religions/sexuality. Pay is fair for retail in a store like this.

    Cons

Almost every problem comes from them scheduling as few people as possible. I feel like upper management is playing a game to see how few employees can be scheduled before sales drop. Enough people are NEVER scheduled to actually help customers or fold/hang/clean up. After closing plan on staying 2-3 hours after the doors are locked -- this means 2AM. If you work in the morning, plan to stay late to try and clean because even if you aren't scheduled to do it they will have you stay to clean. So don't make plans for after work -- you never know when you will leave no matter what shift you have. They used to have more employees during the day so the store wasn't so trashed and people being late wasn't a crisis. Customers are mad because of no employees being around to help and long lines. Since they are mad, they take it out by yelling at the staff.

    Advice to Management

Staff your stores. Its really that simple. 1-2 more people for just 4-5 hours a day would change things and cut the hours needed after closing. Match your management to your published values.
