I have been working at Kohl's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people were really nice and the work was really easy.

    Cons

They constantly gave less hours than promised. They said they didn't have enough hours for every one but then continued to hire five new people every week. Even the old timers were quitting when I quit.

    Advice to Management

Commit to your employees. Experience goes a long way and you'll have nothing but newbies the whole time, treating your workers like this.

    I worked at Kohl's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fast-paced working environment. Decent physical workout from day-to-day tasks. Opportunities to learn other departments. Lift-truck and forklift training. Health/Dental/Vision benefit prices of a large corporation. Flexible full-time hours (not always 40/week). Paid vacation, on-site nurse and legal advice. Paid breaks.

    Cons

Reactive management, not proactive. Clique-ish management (and workers) that picks favorites. Passively punishes employees that press for changes. Inadequate HVAC, so working in trailers during cold/hot days can be brutal. Little accountability on workers (people that don't meet performance requirements are kept around due to tenure). Slow seasons are scheduled in such a way that they give the minimum amount of hours required to prevent claiming partial unemployment. Wage caps on entry-level jobs regardless of tenure. Annual raises are minuscule after probationary period. No performance bonuses; "points" system used to redeem extra PTO or overpriced items compared to extra pay.

    Advice to Management

Stop punishing workers that ask the hard questions, Advocate for changes to benefit the workers instead of making them suffer to gain an extra fraction of a percentage in profit. Get rid of the points system and actually give employees cash rewards for exceeding performance; trust me, we need it given our 3% raises for a full year of exemplary performance. Hold tenured, yet underperforming, workers accountable for their shortcomings; the job requires physical capability, and that's hard on someone has rheumatoid arthritis, sciatica, and degenerative disc disease. You upgrade your sortation system to increase productivity, why not upgrade the workforce? Make sure your employees actually feel appreciated and valued, saying they are does nothing. Words without action makes you a politician, don't be a politician.

    I worked at Kohl's part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Offer extremely flexible schedules. I was here while going to school and they worked with me on getting around all that.

    Cons

No room for advancement. It is what it is. Expect to be paid minimum wage and very little increases from there.

They adapt a pretty rigid "the customer is always right" stance, which can be annoying at times.

    Advice to Management

With so many different people in management positions, it would be nice to get everyone coordinated and on the same page. Every manager has a different answer to everything, and a lot of them play favorites.

    I worked at Kohl's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fast-paced environment and interaction with lots of different people.

    Cons

Lots of mismanagement at a very "micro" level. I was always told one thing by one manager, and another thing by another manager. I was often told that I 'had to finish ___' by the end of the night, only for someone else to say 'it's not that important' later on. Job enrichment strategies to combine elements from multiple departments only made the job more confusing.

    Advice to Management

Decide what is important! Log books, package checks, media, and damages all seemed to be significant some days and unimportant on other days!

    Pros

    Cons

Management treat you like trash store has turned into a battle field every one for them selfs at the cost of some one else job

    Advice to Management

Don't allow you management to treat people like slaves, also they need to speak better as management with better tones and not give one person a weeks worth work and say okay 30 mins
