I have been working at Kohler (Less than a year)

    Pros

The growth potential is enormous. The average person stays in their role a year and a half before a new opportunity has its door opened.

All aspects of the business are encountered within one building from Sales to Maintenance. We all share the same roof.

    Cons

    Equipment is old and outdated.
The industry is plagued by the worldwide industrial marketplace. Job force has been reduced significantly in the past with new locations opening up in other parts of the country / world. The high labor rate in this area makes sustaining this business difficult without changes.

The Union wants more money and more jobs while not understanding that the wage increases without skills increasing results in higher demand to export their jobs to other locations.

Everything is expedited. The planning and preparation for such old equipment requires large stashes of spare parts which is hard to maintain in an organized manner.

    Advice to Management

Promoting from within is highly promoted and encouraged, however, it hurts to see others with less knowledge in the business come in (from another company) and get paid significantly more.

Also, there needs to be more accountability for failures to hit targets and projections. This affects the business unit as a whole. For example, if sales fails to hit their numbers, everybody suffers and nobody gets punished for a costly mistake. Hold associates accountable and people will realize there are consequences to their actions.
