    Pros

Great company to have listed on your resume as "used to work there". Kohler business card will get you into just about any customer office.

    Cons

Meglomaniac upper management folks and a "good old boy" network. If you don't like or practice "butt kissing" you don't stand a chance here.

    Advice to Management

Pay your people or another Toto will coma along and eat your lunch just like Toto did years back.

I worked at Kohler full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It is a good place to build your resume. They will let you grow your skillset, and interact with and learn from people one or two levels above you. You will be able to find alternative employment for a much higher wage after a few years of working at Kohler.

    Cons

Once you grow your skillset, don't expect a promotion for it. There is an entirely different system for promotions, and it is off the books. They will make excuses to promote whoever it is that they want to. They will make excuses to not promote whoever it is that they don't want to. They will spend millions on new equipment, but claim "there isn't enough money to give raises". Or they will claim "sales are down, so we cant give raises", whether or not you have any influence over sales or decisions made. Then they will promote somebody who actually does influence sales enough to contribute to their decline.

    Advice to Management

Build good products and pay good wages. Thats how it was done in the past. Times were good in the past. There is a reason for that. Think long term. Not quarterly.

    Pros

    Cons

Hr organization is terrible..slow to respond and hire...lengthy interviews where you are treated very childish for the years of experience you have...hr very closed minded and backward

    Advice to Management

Keep promoting your incredible brand but more readily take in new talent from the outside

I worked at Kohler full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pretty good benefits, company car, a flexible schedule and a powerful brand name. If you like golf they own golf courses..........if you like cheese, they are located in Wisconsin

    Cons

Middle Management is extremely weak. Kohler tends to promote by who they like, or how they did on a Management presentation, not by experience, success or results. You are at the mercy of the director above you. Don’t get me wrong, some are good, many are really bad. I had a problem, it was called common sense and curiosity, I ended up sticking out for asking questions..... I was labeled and my career stalled. If you work here, be a complete yes man or woman. When the lemmings jump, jump with them. In a business sense you will die from following some really bad ideas, but from a career standpoint you will live to be promoted, overworked and grossly underpaid. Kohler Sales is kind of like the DMV. You have lifers who are there til they retire entrenched behind 3 inch thick glass. People waiting in long impossible lines looking for career advancement, and senior managers who are the bureaucrats who want no change. If you have the slightest entrepreneurial spirit, avoid working at Kohler, it will not be rewarded. If you do end up working here, get what you can out of the organization, build your resume and then jump for a better opportunity

    Advice to Management

Read the cons, that should sum things up pretty well. Stop letting poor managers insulate themselves. Treat your experienced workers and all employees with respect and integrity. Hire managers that are looking to grow people who work for them, not pigeonhole people to entrench their position
