I worked at Koinonia Family Services full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

High integrity in upper management, generous benefits package, progressive growth and quality improvement, paid clinical supervision, people before profit mentality with service

    Cons

I have to write at least twenty words, but there is only one real "con", and that is: Low pay

    Advice to Management

Create standard new hire training for staff, reinforce organization's vision and values, and find a way to offer merit-based compensation increases.

I have been working at Koinonia Family Services full-time

    Pros

This company truly cares about the kids and families it serves. Employee benefits are also good.

    Cons

The pay is less than competitive for front line employees with almost no room for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Give your employees a more aggressive pay raise scale so they are encouraged to stay with the company longer.

    Pros

flexible work schedule, many well meaning and hard working people. Many of the employees are honest and professional with ethical standards.

    Cons

No upward mobility. The company is family owned and nepotism rules even when there are no qualifications for the job positions that require degrees. Exceptions are granted and positions created for family members when they are not qualified or meet educational requirements. The company CEO and family members are not honest nor ethical. Foster and adoption families are frequently baited and switched and not told the truth or prepared for the task of fostering or adopting children.

    Advice to Management

It is highly recommended that educated employees be promoted and nepotism abolished. In addition following the law would be encouraged and training families properly encouraged.

I worked at Koinonia Family Services full-time

    Pros

Work is straight forward and you understand exactly what is expected of you. What keeps people in the organization are the coworkers. Without the support and care of the social workers, this organization would have failed years ago.

    Cons

At the executive level, there are major flaws and extreme loopholes that family members of the owning staff can jump through to gain positions. People who are unqualified for specific jobs are given responsibilities, that under the corporate rules, these family members should not be allowed to hold. If a position requires a Masters degree for anyone outside the family, why is it that corporate's family members are given these positions? *steps off soapbox

    Advice to Management

Hire from within, stop bringing your family into positions that they are not qualified to hold.

    Pros

The opportunity to work with amazing children who have gone through a lot of trauma in their short lives. The chance to help them heal and thrive while dealing with very difficult situations.

    Cons

This agency does not operate with integrity. They are family owned and the nepotism is at an unacceptable level. There is a bias toward people who are followers and the company is not culturally sensitive. Many in the agency have a strong bias against gays and lesbians which is not acceptable based on the fact they receive funding from various counties.

    Advice to Management

Make an attempt to be more professional.
Learn more about different sexual orientations, cultures, races, and pass this on to your employees. Make the children your first priority not money.

    Pros

HR Department and CEO make decisions that show that they care about employees.
Great benefits - company covers 90% of health insurance premiums.
There's a real spirit of camaraderie in many of the local offices.
There is potential for advancement. Most people in leadership were initially hired as social workers.

    Cons

For social workers, it seems like pay is maybe 70% of what you'd make working for the County.
    Raises are very infrequent.

    Advice to Management

You've created an excellent culture. If there were Cost of Living increases, that would be helpful to many of the employees.
