I worked at Komatsu America full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The benefits package is substantial and has good coverage administrated by Blue Cross.
Company loyalty is high in the upper and middle management positions as it is a Japanese environment .

    Cons

Unfortunately the Japanese environment is still subject to US labor and trade laws which in some cases conflict making upper middle management positions difficult to navigate without proper training and clear direction.

Need better training for managers on pitfalls and personnel management.

    Advice to Management

Much time and money is spent on salary and staff metrics systems. That investment is poorly served once the system is rolled out to be used by the staff. Further education and participation by the Human Resources department is needed to support how to use these systems to make the company a better place to work and promote employee development. As the systems are deployed now they are used only as "whipping boy" tasks that exact a huge time toll for management and staff and subdue morale.

I have been working at Komatsu America full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Anyone who values their work/life balance would absolutely love working at Komatsu America. The people are friendly, hard working, and many have been with company for long time which makes up a very loyal and customer-oriented culture. Flex time is fantastic and you can take a morning doctor appointment or come in a few minutes later because you wanted to drop kids off at camp, and that is just the norm. I appreciate the company for giving me this flexibility and it only contributes to me wanting to work harder. I'm very happy I chose to come work here.

    Cons

So far I have not exhibited any cons

I worked at Komatsu America full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to travel to remote international locations to coordinate stress and performance testing of heavy machinery in real customer applications

    Cons

Poor career advancement; the performance-driven culture upset the work-life balance of their employees; Lack of appreciation for a job well-done

    Advice to Management

While Japanese culture is efficient, upsetting the work-life balance of American families causes stress and demotivation to the employees. We are not drones!
