I have been working at Kona Grill part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Really great management that actually listen to you

    Cons

It's a little bit seniority based, which I understand to an extent, but people who work harder and definitely deserve better shifts don't always get it over someone who isn't the best because they have been there longer

    Advice to Management

Shifts should be ability based as much as seniority based

I have been working at Kona Grill full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great work culture! The company's mission is to, "Make every experience exceptional" and that is clearly meant to extend beyond restaurant guests, including staff as well. When you spend as much time at work as most of us do, it is really important to enjoy the people you work with - at Kona there is a strong sense of community and teamwork. The corporate office really sets the table for comradery and teambuilding by hosting frequent events. Whether it's a pizza party, potluck, or making sack lunches for the less fortunate - there are always efforts made to bring together departments.

There is definitely room for growth here. I personally have advanced from my original title and I appreciate working somewhere where hard work is recognized and new opportunities are available.

    Cons

The volume of work is high and the pace is fast, but if you aren't afraid of a challenge and have a, "go-getter" personality the workload is absolutely doable.

    "Corporate ship is sinking fast"

I have been working at Kona Grill full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great office location. Great place to make industry connections.

    Cons

CEO is single-handedly sinking that ship by letting the board of directors treat him like a puppet, and only keeping people around who abide by his every misguided direction. He takes no responsibility for the failures the company has seen over the last 2 1/2 years, instead, he would rather fire the whistleblowers and silence any voice that calls for change (no matter how tenured that person may be)

    Advice to Management

Change starts from the top, turn over the board of directors, and replace with people who care more about the growth of the company and less about their own pocketbooks. Or at the very least remove the chairman and his trickster son. Remove the CEO and replace with someone who knows how to run a restaurant company.

I worked at Kona Grill full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some experienced chefs that care. Pay was competitive to other restaurants. Growth opportunity through training

    Cons

Many managers that are not experienced, flirt with servers/hostesses, and do not know how to properly communicate with their subordinates.
