I worked at Kona Grill full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some experienced chefs that care. Pay was competitive to other restaurants. Growth opportunity through training

    Cons

Many managers that are not experienced, flirt with servers/hostesses, and do not know how to properly communicate with their subordinates.

I have been working at Kona Grill part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Love the people we serve and good food.

    Cons

Too many attitudes and too much favoritism

    Advice to Management

Don't do so much micromanagement you trained your employees let them work. Stop scheduling so many servers so much we can't make money and we still have to give great service.

I have been working at Kona Grill part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I love my coworkers, we have fun at work. Management is chill most of the time too. Food is good

    Cons

Gone through way too many managers for any one restaurant in a short time.
    Ticket time are slow
Food comes out good but takes forever
Sales are only up because Kona raised prices.
No gratuity allowed on parties which screws employees over more often than not
No corking fee, which again, always screws the servers over

    Advice to Management

Management is good, but corporate Kona needs to think about its employees instead of their bottom line, because their employees are the ones that bring the business in.

I worked at Kona Grill full-time

    Pros

This job can be good money for what the job entails if you work full time

    Cons

The management mostly only cares for the guests, even if they're extremely rude, they will go out of their way to ensure these kind of people return by giving them free meals and gift cards instead of sticking up for their employees.

    Advice to Management

Care for your employees because quality employees are not that easy to come by.

I worked at Kona Grill full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun, friendly, constantly moving, different every day

    Cons

Not much upward mobility, opinions not often heard.

    Advice to Management

Not much. It's a restaurant; there's high turnover, hard to keep everyone happy all day everyday.

  8. "Good food, above average money to be made, but favoritism runs rampant here."

I have been working at Kona Grill part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The lunch clientele is consistent and pleasant. Good food and the cash flow is above average. 50% off employee food when working
    25% when not working

    Cons

Too many servers on the floor & more side work than any other restaurant and no cleaning crew, so we, the staff, clean the restaurant.

    Advice to Management

Low level managers wouldn't listen, but the corporate team should embrace Fit for Growth as a Business model and maybe hire a hidden worker to really see what's going on at their locations.

I worked at Kona Grill full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great overall corporate company to work for. Constantly is listening to it's people and trying to grow.

    Cons

Growing too much too fast. Getting itself lost. Wants to open too many stores too quickly that current operations seem to fall off. Spends too much money on things like menus because they don't want to pay upfront for a better product.

I have been working at Kona Grill part-time

    Pros

    Flexible schedule, great for students.

    Cons

Long hours and give employees other opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Be fair to your employees, and management needs to understand their positions and not be so "friendly" with the employees.
