I have been working at Kona Grill part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Stays busy all year for the most part.

    Cons

Very long hours if you work a double. No breaks usually. Most side work you will ever do in a serving job. The back of house sucks at their job.

    Advice to Management

    Hire better line cooks

    Pros

Wonderful working environment, great team, and extremely fast growing. Kona Grill a great company that takes care of it's customers as well as it's employees. Amazing brand and an incredible company overall.

    Cons

The company is growing very quickly and naturally there are growing pains that go along with that. There are a few operational kinks but they are quick to resolve issues.

    Advice to Management

I would say more frequent employee review meetings that allow employees to express growth they would like to see in their careers as well as with the company in general.

    Pros

Kona Grill is a great opportunity for both entry level and beyond chefs to develop their skills and management techniques depending on your demographic. The busier stores are definitely more suitable for more advanced high paced managers and chefs and not so much for the less skilled. I would advise taking into consideration your market volume and your skill level before committing to a specific store.

    Cons

Payroll typically has a hard time keeping up with payroll changes, meaning that if your salary changes, it may take payroll a couple weeks to adjust your pay increase or compensate you for your vacation pay. However the management team and corporate team are very good at making sure that any issues are corrected in a timely fashion.

There are some organizational flaws both on the local and corporate level, nothing that can't be handled with diligent management.

    Advice to Management

Be prepared to be challenged on many levels, but understand that these challenges will definitely contribute to your management development.
