I worked at Korman Communities full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

It was a union position with all the related benefits and salary, but that comes more from the union than the company's generosity.

    Cons

It is a small, clicky, family run company. The owners surround themselves with 'yes' and allow them to spoon feed them ideas, no matter how ridiculous. The individual property managers and maintenance managers tend to be people of low moral character and carve out their own fiefdoms at their respective properties. Obviously questional ethical practices abound as a result.

    Advice to Management

Hire people with real experience with no personal connection to anyone else in the company. Get rid of nepotism and the 'good ol' boy'/ alumni scene. This is the only way to bring the company's culture into the 21st century.

    Pros

Great people and great owners. The work environment is the best I have ever experienced.

    Cons

Difficult to get a bonus. I have not received a bonus in 3 years.

    Advice to Management

Giving front line management teams a bonus once in a while can go a long way.

I have been working at Korman Communities

    Pros

I have been working for Korman Communities' AVE brand for 8 years. My time here has been positive for both professional and personal growth. With hard work and focus, there is a lot of potential for growth within the company. Goals and career opportunities are reviewed annually with clear direction for advancement. The management style is hands-on. Leadership works directly with the team on site on daily basis. AVE by...

    I worked at Korman Communities

    Pros

Pay was great for an easy job! Each property has its own culture - some better than others.

    Cons

Quoted from another review - This sums up the entire experience - Upper Management consistantly speaking poorly of other employees was a true red flag and a violation of employee privacy. There is not an official HR department -just some relative who process paper work - Watch out Kormans - you could be in for a nasty law suite. I have been working at Korman Communities full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Pay is okay and I have had little trouble with pay raise but they could be a little more but I could be getting picky. My desk manager is a nice guy put gets takin advantage of by staff

    Cons

Management is in a world of their own. They herald the oh mighty dollar except when they give freebies out to friends and family which is kinda often. There are no bonuses of any kind. No holiday parties or any kind of motivators of any kind. Moral is always at a low which is a little jacked up being you would want us to be friendly. It is an 8 and skate job with the current system. I love the residents and that, beside...

    Advice to Management

Replace building manager and remember that we are humans working for humans. There is no human touch. Motivate your workers even if through simple management tricks that make you think that what you say and do matters even if you never use or consider them just make us feel like you may care(management not owners). And in my buildings case, maybe you should spend more on cleaners. The building suffers with its tenants...

I worked at Korman Communities full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Beautiful property in Beverly Hills, and very easy to sell rooms. High profile clientele and I got to meet many entertainment industry personalities. Good commissions in some services that you book. Very good tips when you go above and beyond for your guests.

    Cons

Management only cares about how much money this property is making and does not care for the services provided. Many dissatisfied guests were classified as "annoying" or "crazy" by management when they complained about their services. Management says that the company has strict policies, but these will be put aside if the guest is a VIP. This makes the front desk's job difficult when you have to explain non-vip guests...

    Advice to Management

To Larry Korman: Invest in a better Front Desk Manager that does not play favorites and knows how to be a leader. Create an HR team for the west coast as your company expands. Give your entry-level employees more incentives and feedback on performance so the turnover decreases. Sit down with your non-management staff and have a conversation where they can voice their opinions and experiences. The front desk is not ergonomic...

I have been working at Korman Communities full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Some of the properties really do their best at treating the employees like family and go above and beyond to make everyone happy. Great way to learn the ropes in working at a hotel.

    Cons

There is very little room for growth, They will never proactively sit you down and do a performance review for career advancement. You will have to negotiate hard for pay increases. Front Desk is Half union and half non union which means all union members get automatic pay increases, better health insurance, and weekly pay. Non union members will not get any of that. Front desk manages all aspects of the building but...

    Advice to Management

The company as a whole always seems to be patching things up and barely cutting it. You used to be able to make bonuses bases on customer reviews and quality but they took that away. The incentlives are laughable and almost seem like they come out of the Front office managers pocket. Lets try to treat the employees like were all on the same team. My advice to anyone looking to work at AKA. Don't. unless you know EXACTLY...

I worked at Korman Communities full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

If you look good in black, then you're in luck. Getting dressed for work will never be easier. That's about it.

    Cons

Upper management's favor is fickle at best, and based not on performance or results but rather juicy gossip or brown-nosing ability. A culture of backstabbing and junior-high nonsense is encouraged by a few key favorites while the majority of the so-called "team members" flounder under unclear and inconsistent expectations and ever-changing definitions of success. I was never so professionally miserable than during my...

    Advice to Management

To the Kormans: Take a hard look at reasons for turnover. Conduct exit interviews. Your family name's reputation is at stake. Your properties are beautiful and your concepts innovative. But your management team chews people up and spits them out.

I worked at Korman Communities full-time

    Pros

The property that I worked at provides a quality product and makes customer satisfaction a priority. They have exacting standards and reasonable expectations of their employees. It's a great place to get the training that you need to go somewhere for advacement.

    Cons

Little hope for advancement unless you know someone high up.

    Advice to Management

I would have enjoyed staying with the company if someone took the time to realize my potential. You probably have a lot of gems hidden within your business who are eager to be heard.
