I have been working at Kratos Defense & Security Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Varied work environment. Different types of projects from different defense customers keeps things interesting.

    Cons

More a criticism of the defense department in general: stuck in a water fall model that does not reflect real world development. This leads to bids that are based on guessing, which leads to stress at the end of projects and inferior results.

    Advice to Management

Have good career paths your developers. Attempt to lead defense customers to more flexible projects so that there is customer feedback loops and openness.

I have been working at Kratos Defense & Security Solutions full-time

    Pros

This is a performance-based culture that values competency, accountability, initiative and rewards performance based on measurable results rather than your education or military pedigree. Strategic goals and objectives are clear and the organizational structure of the company is aligned to facilitate quick decisions.

    Cons

Honestly - I could complain about a less than optimal business process or a less than effective leader, but I choose to focus on personal accountability. The defense industry and current acquisition process/practices are not fun. There are days where your passion for supporting our Department of Defense is the only "incentive" you will have to say "I love my job!"

    Advice to Management

Focus on talent management. We are at a point in the organization's growth where I believe that focusing on acquiring, managing, developing and retaining top tier talent will be the differentiation that takes Kratos to the next level.

I have been working at Kratos Defense & Security Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company has made great strides in organization and the quality management system in the last year.

    Cons

Still a lot of hard work to be done to get the CM up to where it needs to be. Work loads can be heavy at times. There are a number of cultural obstacles that need to be overcome to succeed.

    Advice to Management

Delegate and allow those who are empowered to make the decisions. Focus more on the outlook long-term and allow the day to day management to be done by those who are more in touch with everything that happens daily.

I have been working at Kratos Defense & Security Solutions full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Large company with a wide reach of territory and products. Solid leadership in many areas.

    Cons

For those who do not enjoy the corporate style of business, Kratos may not be the best fit. As the company continues to grow, leadership has done a lot to standardize processes across the board, and there is much more of a large corporation feel than a small business.
