    Pros

Poised to be a big player in the security field with some excellent players and outstanding accounts. Could be a real contender with the right focus.

    Cons

No Leadership direction in the PSS division causing different regions to flounder and the overall success of the division to suffer. The division as a whole is suffering from poor leadership and lack of a communicated goal that everyone can get behind.

I have been working at Kratos Defense & Security Solutions full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits package and co-workers are great.

    Cons

Poor pay and the only raises are 2% annually. The company is top heavy and there is little or no consideration much less communication with us "worker bees"! This company could be great if they would check their egos and get rid of the control freaks in Orlando!

    Advice to Management

They wouldn't listen anyway! They've lost so many good people!

I have been working at Kratos Defense & Security Solutions full-time

    Pros

    OK benefits. Capable engineering teams.

    Cons

Under market average wages, dismal merit raises, incentive compensation being withheld because of serious mismanagement issues that destroyed the company's performance and lost the confidence, and business, of key customers, poor internal communications, absentee leadership, no backlog and little current business, limited product base with poor growth potential. Manufacturing rates are not competitive.

    Advice to Management

Reinstate bonuses to improve employee morale. Eliminate corporate strategy to maintain a workforce at below market average wages. Remove executive incentive to retain below market average employee costs. Decrease indirect overhead that is weighing down company profitability. Modernize engineering tools.

    Pros

    - Pay is good, benefits are great
    - Getting paid overtime is awesome
    - Free soda
    - Work is fast paced and you're allowed a fair amount of autonomy
    - High quality team of engineers to work with
    - Colorado Springs is a beautiful location

    Cons

    - HUGE variability in experience, depending on which department/location you're in, and which customer you're working with.

    - Kratos develops software for the government and other defense contractors. Their bread & butter is one-off custom products. They talk big about COTS products, but it's very rare that they sell something that isn't customized. The end result is that their products are medium/low quality, and medium/low quality products are less fun to work with.

    - The project teams have very little time to develop good requirements with the customer, and then spend months and years on the back end making up for building on a flawed foundation

    - As others have noted, they do lay people off to make ends meet at the end of the year, and then open a bunch of job req's the next year

    Advice to Management

The cons I've noted are largely a byproduct of proximity to the government, so the only advice I have is to focus on getting out of that market and into the private sector.

I worked at Kratos Defense & Security Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There were good people that use to work that and that was the only value.

    Cons

They only cared about the bottom line.

    Advice to Management

Replaced the person who leaves and not add that workload to your remaining employees.

I worked at Kratos Defense & Security Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay is very good. Benefits are decent. Management sets clear goals with worker bees each year.

    Cons

My department cons - Not enough bodies to complete the daily job duties and projects. Progress and direction can be slow since lower management was understaffed.
Company as a whole cons - This company wants to do it all but is not a big enough player to do so. They lack direction and identity. Upper management is overstaffed and overpaid yet worker bees are over loaded. All the true talented engineers are finding jobs elsewhere since the workload is unbearable.

    Advice to Management

Define the company's identity. Inspire the ones that are doing the work. Get rid of the extra executives and invest in your workforce and infrastructure.
