    Pros

    -Getting to know your customers
    -Food available for lunch/breaks.
-2 Breaks and a Lunch for an 8 hour shift
    -Discount on Kroger brand merchandise

    Cons

-Managers (as is the case everywhere) can range from wonderful, to awful
    -Micromanagement
-Lunches/Breaks are often late depending on the needs of the operation
    -Benefits are fairly lackluster
-Union is not very effective at helping employees get what they need

    Advice to Management

Make your employees feel more valued. Tell them when they do a good job, and please please ensure that your store managers/co-managers know that their job is not to put down and torment employees.

I worked at Kroger full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

It's a fast-paced environment with a lot of great people to talk to, both customers and associates. I enjoy retail sales, and the environment really fosters a good relationship with regulars and desire to provide fresh product.

    Cons

Louisville management is very supportive, but Indianapolis' management seems to be completely different. It took longer to find a manager than speak with one, and they usually didn't care about my emotions, needs, or desires to shove someone's head into a band saw. I felt disrespected and disregarded, and after amazing communication and cooperation with management in Louisville, I simply could not abide the Indianapolis market. Not only did I leave, I refuse to shop there now.

    Advice to Management

Seriously, you need to listen to your employees. Asking less people to do more work is utterly ridiculous and simply sets them up for failure. It is a hostile work environment, and it is your job to fix that.

    Pros

Plenty of overtime when you want it.

    Cons

Plenty of overtime even when you don't want it. Take several years before you get enough seniority to get your days off.

I have been working at Kroger full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Can't think of any really as it is retail pharmacy. Kroger doesn't do anything "special" to make them stand out from other retail pharmacy jobs.

    Cons

Over worked with out enough technician help. Technician help is inadequate, always at least 1 tech short and when they start break & lunch rotation...it makes it extremely rough. Its all about millions in Kroger's pocket not about the lil guys running the operations at store level. Unethical HR department, I was fired because my manager didn't like me. No complaints against me, I was always at work, I was always called to come in on my off shifts, other employees requested me; However, my manager didn't like me so I was fired and HR allowed it to happen. That HR team deserves to be replaced... Bad management and Kroger doesn't care because they are going to sell food no matter how bad they treat employees.

    Advice to Management

It all starts at the top and dwindles down. Quit giving such large bonuses to upper management and give something to the people actually running the stores. A pay rate people can live on. Kroger hires in at 40 hours a week then cuts our hours to 11, how can a person live? You want dependability of employees, and in turn, employees need dependability of Kroger, meaning quit the hourly flex, I cannot live on 11 hours of pay a week. Store managers get large bonuses, low man gets nothing. Where is employee incentive. Managers allowed to fire you just because they don't like you, not that you did anything wrong. Worthless people in management positions should have to go. CEO should get out from behind his desk or off of the golf course and meet some of the slime he has in management positons. But, I guess that's the corporate world.

I have been working at Kroger (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The company has great pay and benefits for it's managers, even entry level trainees. You also have some flexibility with the areas of the city or state you want to work in.

    Cons

Work/life balance is virtually nonexistent, especially for assistant managers. With the flexibility you have in areas to work also comes the realization that you could be transferred at almost anytime, anywhere.

    Advice to Management

Really listen to your people and stop trying to con them.
