I have been working at Kroger part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Easy work, not much you can do wrong, plus you get paid weekly.

    Cons

It get's boring on slow days and there's nothing you can do to make the time pass more quickly. Some people are extremely rude, but you have to be as nice as possible or else you could get fired.

    Advice to Management

Offer more free food. I'm always hungry.

I have been working at Kroger full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, 401k with matching up to 3%, 2% is half matched of each pay cycle. Health plan is one of the best I have seen among my friends and colleagues in other businesses of the field. Freedom to manage your way to get the results the company expects - as long as you obtain them. Get to work with the community, people, and get to know your 100 to 300 associates on a personal level that many, such as myself, enjoy.

    Cons

Very high-pressure, intense, and the phrase "sense of urgency" will be pushed so hard you might crack. Accountability has become a big piece but it really means "who have you disciplined or fired?" The corporate staff sometimes is disconnected from the difficulties in dealing with the laws and rules that come with union associates. A year ago the job had few or none of these issues and many managers are leaving to be replaced by out of company management. Not a bad thing, but the Kroger model traditionally was an internally fed organization.

    Advice to Management

Slamming clipboards on desks and demanding what is needed to change the trends of the stores, when most stores are understaffed due to poor wages and not being competitive at the associate level compared to retailers across the street, is not a great way to garner results. Further, expecting this same management staff to be the "uplifting" personalities everyone expects while they worry about their job security is a bit difficult to rationalize. Work life balance also was advertised but it was really just a buzzword used for "but sometimes you'll get both your days off!" Of course salary means there are no days off but guilt trips are not the way to get results either.
