Job security, very respectful atmosphere, and employees are sincere and hard working

    Cons

Low salary, better internal communication is needed, external collaboration is improving but needs to improve, and vertical movement is slow for career development

I have been working at Kyowa Hakko Kirin full-time

    Pros

Great environment, benefits, people. I have received a lot of training and development. They have been flexible about work life balance.

    Cons

Hard to say. Changing of executives is part of the culture. Sometime people perceive this to mean a lack of stability but it is just part of the Japanese culture however, it may lead to adjustments having to be made for different leadership styles.

I have been working at Kyowa Hakko Kirin full-time

    Pros

The people who work here are fantastic.

    Cons

Management is somewhat disconnected from the scientists. High turnover in the last year has led to some turmoil.

    Advice to Management

Talk to your scientists about their needs and wants before making drastic changes to the company structure.

I worked at Kyowa Hakko Kirin full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people who work here are amazing. The shared facility with the La Jolla Institute gives unparalleled access to some of the brightest minds in immunology.

    Cons

The companies governance is highly in question as to direction and stability. Being Japanese based, transparency in decision making is not a top priority.

    Advice to Management

Find the synergy between headquarters and the rest of the companies subsidiaries in order to achieve your goals of a global specialty pharmaceutical company.

I have been working at Kyowa Hakko Kirin full-time

    Pros

I'm speaking about the US business here - Once we had a vision and sales were growing, but not since 2013. The purchase by Kiowa Hakko Kirin added some excitement and hinted at new potential for the organization and its employees.

    Cons

Revolving door of US General Managers/US Presidents. Scottish head office changes them like shirts - doesn't stand by them. As a result, new management tries new things all the time to grow the business- including complete changeover in sales force, sales management every year. Sales flat now for two years, head office can't seem to acquire new products for us and there is really no willingness to do so. The Japanese let us twist in the wind.

    Advice to Management

Convince Japan to acquire us new products or just sell us off - as its obvious there is no confidence in US operation. Start over when KHK is ready to deliver a new product. KHK - fire the CEO and his cronies in Scotland.

    Pros

The company provides a Small company culture that is Collaborative and fairly Agile
You feel like your effort matters and you are helping patients.

    Cons

The company has Limited resources so you feel limited in your ability to compete with bigger pharma companies. There does not seem to be a commitment to one disease.

    Advice to Management

Invest in more to drive sales

I have been working at Kyowa Hakko Kirin full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fast paced, flat structure so decisions happen quickly. Can gain great autonomy and responsibility if you have the right fit.

Well supported by Japanese parent company, excellent product pipeline, moving to specialist areas.

    Cons

Company expects a lot and gives little. Remuneration isn't very competitive, possibly because of the location. Very little flexibility around working hours and location, that being said, there is no "overtime" culture.

Office politics, small town mentality and cliques created by some employees,

    Advice to Management

With changing company goals, a reasonably flexible working environment will make your workforce more engaged, flexible and inspired to go the extra mile.
