I worked at López Negrete full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed the brainstorms, the collaboration, the debates and disagreements, but no matter what at the end of the day, we were able create great (award-winning) campaigns.

There are very committed employees within a friendly and collaborative environment. This great environment push you to be the best you can be.

The Strategic Plannint Unit (business analytics and planning) is world-class. It provides great insight that are leveraged across all clients. Also, digital/development team is very proactive, innovative and problem-solving as well as very well integrated with the other departments.

It also very active in employee-oriented activities, from company parties (Halloween, Christmas, Cinco de Mayo, etc) to community service (APOD, Food Bank)

Alex Lopez Negrete has a great vision for the company as well as he is very strategic on helping client's to address the new realities of the Hispanic market

    Cons

Need to have more discipline on running annual reviews and determine goals

Training budget approval/refusal takes time ending in uncertainty and higher cost to the company (missing registration deadlines)

I worked at López Negrete full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Most of the people is very nice and the clients of most of the accounts are a pleasure to work with. The HR team is also very nice and always open to listen to their employees even most of the time they cannot do anything to help.

    Cons

The heads of the agency specially in the Management team are a nightmare to work with. It is an agency that says is all about family since the owners are but the benefits, the policies the flexibility is not family oriented. If you are young or old but lonely with no need of money, with no life and no desire to advance in your career this is a good place to work

    Advice to Management

The only reason you have been losing all your clients and wasting tons of money on pitches that end in nothing is because everyone or 90% of the people that works there HATES the place but since Houston does not have a lot of agencies then is difficult to leave. But employees need to be motivated, need to feel they are valuable, need to feel that if they give the agency many hrs of work then the company will help them grow, will appreciate the time and most important will realize that employees NEED a balance between work and family. This company does not know the meaning of loyalty and it is sad to see that years ago it was a happy environment and now walking around feels like a funeral.

    Pros

Can't really find anything to highlight as a pro.

    Cons

Owners only seem to care about how much money they will make. If you are not the owner's friend you will not advance your career there. They are extremely safe in terms of creative, which is not what you would like for a "creative" agency. They will police you all the time, even try to check your social media activity.

    Advice to Management

Retire. Let the people you hire use their talent and you'll be much more successful.

    Advice to Management

none. they wouldn't take it anyway.

The pay is good, and that's the only good thing.

    Cons

It's a sweat shop and the management is horrible. Everyone in there works in panic mode.

    Advice to Management

Fire yourself and get someone who knows how to do the job. Don't fall for the brownnosers.

    Pros

    There are no pros here.

    Cons

Reeks of moth balls. Persons running the company have ZERO idea of advertising, like for example: giving employee titles that do NOT exist in the real agency world. It is a sad, pathetic little place with ideas of grandeur. The owners need to get off their high horse and accept they have no idea of what they're doing. Stay away from this hell hole!

    Advice to Management

Close the shop and go retire somewhere nice. You can't teach old dogs new tricks and you old fogies are all a perfect example! Do the advertising world a favor and retire with all the money you have been swindling from your clients and employees.

I worked at López Negrete full-time

    Pros

Pay is pretty decent for a Texas advertising agency. Located in nice area of Houston. Indoor parking. Met some good people.

    Cons

This agency is dying. They are an old-fashioned, non-innovative agency that has lost and is losing lots of money. Did many many layoffs. Closed 2 offices on the low. They were dishonest to employees regarding financial future of the agency. Gave them a 1 star rating because I couldn't give zero.

    Advice to Management

Be honest to employees about the financial status of the agency. Employees were told there would be no more layoffs- and that was a lie. Get more creative to win more accounts to bring in more money.

    Pros

This place is tolerant if you produce. Overall my experience has been good. Like any work place, there are personalities that rub you the wrong way, and this place is no different, but it is the most laid back atmosphere I have ever worked in. Communication is very important to getting things done. There are all-stars in each department (and there are some not-all-stars too).

The health plan is actually quite good (two options to choose from) and the 401k is great too. Vacation is good as well (what you would expect from any other company, though I hear lots of complaints come December that other Ad agencies take off almost the entire month and we don't).

    Cons

Many managers seem to have been promoted for any reason except a demonstrated ability to manage people. This has a negative affect on work/life balance as people are very often working late (of course people come in to work late too, many after 9:30-10am). There is no work from home, however, this could never really work anyway as everything has to be done in meetings with everyone on the team in the meeting (physically if not mentally). Over all, I feel like the teams would perform better if more people had a few years experience working for major corporations, unfortunately, it seems as though this industry attracts many young people who haven't yet a clue about work, perhaps that's a negative about Millennials more than this place though.

    Advice to Management

You are too compartmentalized. I guess that works in a dictatorship, but you could achieve better results if all the managers and their departments were marching in the same direction and to the same drummer. I can't remember the last time my input was requested at a management level meeting. We used to have all agency meetings every Monday and at least that kept us somewhat on the same page. Department leads don't even bother to post/share what their teams have been producing on the company intranet. If that isn't an indication that something is wrong with the culture, I'm not sure what would be.
