I have been working at L-3 Link full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

9/80 work schedule is outstanding. Pay is on par with the industry. They are genuinely interested in you enjoying your work there. Very smart people in supporting functions across the company that help you be successful. Location is awesome, near the entertainment district of Arlington, which is growing.

    Cons

Very structured DoD environment is not always ideal for new ideas. They are coming around though, and are eager to get input to change some things. Don't expect major changes, however due to corporate governance driving the operations of a fairly risk averse company. But being risk averse creates security for jobs, so...

    Advice to Management

Continue with your trend to listen to employees, it will pay off, even if it takes years. Attrition will go down and recruitment should improve.

    Pros

The people who work here. They are dedicated, hardworking and very good at what they do. Often working above and beyond requirements without being asked in order to get the job done or meet customer requirements.

    Cons

Government oversight and audit requirements is generating policy overload and an environment where nothing seems get done quickly and micro-management to ensure policy/process compliance.

    Pros

Great People, Good time off, Ok pay... Decent work schedule and good activities for employees to come together and fellowship. The people make this place great.

    Cons

The management team, which is massive, never looks at the employee level in terms of advancement or raise in pay. Nor do these managers put forth effort to care either. Be sure to stay consistent with appraisals.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and their ideas. They see most of the problems coming before the problems exist. Be more aware of how your employees are performing.

    Pros

Great for family activities and support. It can often feel like one big family. Career path is fairly flexible to what you want with competitive pay.
Right next to Six Flags, AT&T Stadium (Dallas Cowboys), and Rangers stadium.

    Cons

Event traffic (occasionally). Inter-department support is weak. Location is in an industrial zone, but the area is kept nice.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at L-3 Link (More than a year)

    Pros

Division has great potential to move forward and not be tethered to the Link division for all of its work. The people who work there are great and there is a good family atmosphere when you are there. The systems they would get for design would be very challenging as well as fun.

    Cons

The company grew way to fast, and the processes they kept in place could not keep up. This caused a problem with dis-unity between different projects, so bouncing around from one to another would be challenging at best. Due to this, several major projects were months behind and cause several division restructuring layoffs.

    Advice to Management

When you get big enough again and start bringing back in the talent that was let go, just listen to them. There is an inherent problem when the people that are let go in a layoff are the most experienced people who where bringing up the safety issues in a behind project and not being "yes" men. Not only listen to their input, but also their suggestions about process changes. Many of us came from the larger competition companies and our input of possible process improvements were only met with a smile and a nod.
