I have been working at L.E.K. Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Rarely have to travel in this job. Get to manage team the moment you come out of business school.

    Cons

New York office is one of the smallest - we don't get the big shiny projects and we do a lot more private equity due diligence than other offices

    Advice to Management

Please change allocations to something more transparent with someone who was a former consultant at the helm. It does not make sense right now and it will make plenty of people unhappy / unmotivated to do their best

I have been working at L.E.K. Consulting full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

L.E.K. focuses on strategic consulting engagements, which in turn contributes to shorter projects, less travel, and more time spent in the office compared to other Consulting firms. This leads to a strong in-office culture that makes L.E.K. an enjoyable place to work. The learning curve is steep, but L.E.K. provides a strong Professional Development program to help colleagues navigate the learning curve.

    Cons

Like other Consulting / client services firms, predictability can be difficult on some projects. However, the firm has made strides towards improving work / life balance significantly

    Advice to Management

Continue to move along the upward trajectory and be more strategic about not over-selling / under-staffing projects

I worked at L.E.K. Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent name, good exit opportunities, good industry exposure

    Cons

Terrible work life balance, people are really not that smart, tasks for junior level are so tedious like lots of cold calling and data crunching - very little opportunity for face time with clients. Company culture needs huge improvement too. HR Is also terrible.

    Advice to Management

Understand your employees more and maybe they'll be happier.

I have been working at L.E.K. Consulting full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    1. very quick learning curve--you get exposure to a wide variety of projects quickly within one year as many projects are shorter in length
    2. early management opportunity -- you get to manage a case team of undergraduates right away
    3. low travel model - most projects are staffed locally and travel is minimal (often just for a few client meetings)
    4. pure strategy projects-- many projects are pure strategy projects rather than implementation

    Cons

As with all consulting comapnies the hours can be long at times and the performance expectations are high

I have been working at L.E.K. Consulting full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

L.E.K. is distinguished itself from other consulting firms given its emphasis on core strategy projects, with less emphasis on operations and implementation work. Given this focus on strategy, L.E.K. requires significantly less travel than other consulting firms, which means that the default is to be in the office 5 days a week, which in turn creates a strong office culture. The strategy focus also contributes to a shorter average case duration, given employees more concrete learning opportunities outside of the formal Professional Development program.

    Cons

There are high expectations of case teams, and sometimes cases will be sold for the sake of bringing in revenue, despite the fact that the system may be booked up.

    Advice to Management

Continue to move in the direction of improving morale and work / life balance, even during busy times of the year.
