I have been working at L3 Technologies

    Pros

This is a company that really does its best to take care of its people. Even in the difficult times we are in now, layoffs are -really- a last resort . Most often the employee will be offered the chance to move to another area of the company that can leverage his/her skills. L3 is also a vast and diverse company. As well as having tangible asset product lines (i.e. communications gear, avionics, etc.) we also are a service provider to the defense industry at large. This means that large program cuts that affect other defense industry players like Boeing , Lockheed and Nortrhup do not affect L3 as much.

    Cons

If your not directly working in a production oriented group and are in a service providing capability, you may find yourself "separated" from the company. That is, you may be working as a "sub" on some other provider's contract and that means your not in daily contact with "the mother ship". This is sometimes inconvenient.

I have been working at L3 Technologies full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

They were much better 3 years ago!

    Cons

L-3 Platform Integration Division (PID) in Waco TX is a tiny niche division caught in a tailspin treating their professional engineers like factory workers. In my 20 year engineering career, I've never seen such close management scrutiny of every task and every minute. It used to be a great place to work until the management team from Greenville TX reduced benefits, tied time cards to gate badge readers, forced you to take vacation time if you arrived after 8:07AM. There is so much focus on the schedule, it is impossible to be agile and work creatively. I found most engineers were simply putting in their time without care to division success. Check this divisions earnings - why are they still in business?

I have been working at L3 Technologies for less than a year

    Pros

They rarely terminate people, if you follow their rules. You are helping to make the World a safer place.

    Cons

They have a lot of rules, No Personal E-mail or Facebook at Work. No taking any pictures, you must in the office/plant for eight hours plus 30 minutes for lunch. Many times you are asked to work extra hours off the books. Which you are told is unethical but every manager breaks the rules.

I have been working at L3 Technologies

    Pros

Competitive pay, training opportunities, %100 company paid benefits, profit sharing, opportunities to get involved with future company projects.

    Cons

Was bought by L3 Communications in 2014, and has since lost many of the benefits listed above. The name Data Tactics is slowly being phased out as a separate business entity.

I have been working at L3 Technologies full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Salary seems to be completive with Dallas area. The benefits are good, and the people are great. The work can be challenging, and the division tends to keep employees through contract transitions. If the program you are working on is coming to an end the company will find another contract for you to work.

    Cons

The management culture is very “hourly” driven. Salary employees must record their hours, and they are threatened with termination if their weekly hours don’t add up to 40… I say threatened supposedly people have been fired for having less than 40 hours in one week, and more than 40 in another week. The reasons given are that people are working outside their assigned schedule. There is no option to work from home, and the facilities are very industrial. The yearly raises will be between 2.3 - 3.2 percent, and there isn’t a bonus structure.

I have been working at L3 Technologies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

L-3 Communications is good at identifying small companies that have good talent but poor financial management. They buy these companies, fix their finances, and incorporate the talented individuals into their pool. You get to work with a lot of very smart people working on interesting things.

    Cons

L-3 buys these small companies and fixes their financial situation. But, they don't know how to make them work together to produce a whole greater than the sum of their parts. Also, management sees people as numbers -- assets and liabilities. They can hurt people through carelessness because they are thinking about numbers, not people.
