    You will make an impact

Aug 16, 2022 - Engineer in Simi Valley, CA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

This L3Harris division is nicely sized and your contributions will make an impact to this particular division. In other words, you will not get lost here and you will be known which is great! The technology is very useful to learn for professional and even non professional usage. Also has 9/90 and 160 hours of PTO to start.

    Cons

Pay is not great after being here an amount of time, no profit sharing, stock purchase plans.

    Senior Specialist (DSP), Systems Engineering

Aug 16, 2022 - Senior Specialist, Systems Engineering in Dallas, TX
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

A lot of good work. A lot of good people. Important work, providing unique capabilities to the war fighter. Very flexible hours where possible.

    Cons

Raises are small (3%) enough that the exact number is pretty meaningless. Yanked from one project to another, hard to progress in skills or systems. Having not been here for a long time (10+ years) is a handicap. "Unlimited vacation". How much is that really? I have no idea.

    Overall Good Experience

Aug 16, 2022 - Human Resources Business Partner
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Working at L3 Harris was a good experience overall. I loved the amount of collaboration and the flexibility with work schedule. The company was very good at acknowledging special circumstances and making necessary accommodations to help out the employee.

    Cons

Working for L3Harris during COVID was not a great experience. The communication based around COVID was hard to understand and track down. Per the circumstances, the company was not necessarily understanding of all situations.

    Pros

Some managers are great. Some really help you grow your career, make sure you get promoted in a timely manner and show appreciation for all your efforts.

    Cons

Some managers are vindictive and sexist. They prevent career growth, salary growth and make your job difficult overall

    Solid Company

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Products, people and customers are the hallmarks of my tenure with L3Harris. If you’re an Engineer or in another technical fields it’s a great place to work. You’ll never be bored! Pay and benefits are good.

    Cons

Lacking in developing its people specifically not a lot of bench strength. Bloated and bureaucratic company that truly doesn’t like change. Wasteful in how it conducts meetings and forces you to use outdated formats to present data. Results oriented which is a plus but they hammer the heck out of you.

    Good stuff!

Aug 12, 2022 - Engineering Specialist in Greenville, TX
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

-9/80 schedule is awesome. By extension, work-life balance is awesome. You are not only expected, but encouraged to work your 80 hours per pay period and go home - but if you do elect for overtime as a salaried employee, you will be compensated for any hours over 40 after hitting 44+ hours/week. You can also (mostly) choose your own schedule/hours unless you have some kind of team or departmental commitment. -Genuinely interesting and cool work. It's very secretive by nature (requires a DoD clearance), but it's extremely fascinating stuff for an engineer. Depending on your department, it can also be very hands-on engineering work, which some people may enjoy a lot but not everybody. -Lots of freedom to tackle projects and tasks in whatever way you see fit. There is plenty of support for you from many sources/personnel, but you are able to be creative and own your work with minimal oversight/constraints - at least, that has been my experience so far at the Engineer III level. -Culture and morale are very strong. Everyone you meet seems like they are happy with their job/L3Harris as a whole. Probably the best company culture I’ve ever been a part of in my 5 years of experience. -L3Harris does a decent job at staying up to date with technology & systems. IT infrastructure is cutting-edge, several aspects of the facility have been renovated nicely, and there is a general sense of forward momentum in how the company operates vs how many big companies seem to be dinosaurs in terms of the methods/systems applied. -4 weeks of PTO company-wide regardless of seniority. That rocks. Some senior folks are mad it doesn’t scale with time spent at the company, but the system is still excellent compared to industry standards - especially if you’re younger/new. Also, PTO after 4 weeks is also technically unlimited with manager approval. -The Greenville facility itself is surprisingly clean in MOST places. Definitely cleaner than most plants I’ve seen. There is a big push on all-level ownership of keeping the place neat and tidy (which also helps reduce foreign object debris). -Things can move slow, but this is more of a pro than a con to me - you have ample time to get tasks done and there is only an urgent action item/shifting priority occasionally instead of daily or hourly like some other places i’ve worked. There is plenty to do so you won’t get bored, but you are almost always not forced to rush anything. Greenville has done a phenomenal job with production control and production planning. -Good facility amenities: fitness center, two cafeterias, vending machines in every building, dozens of modern conference rooms, lots of golf carts to get around fast.

    Cons

-Pay seems to be a little lower than industry standards. I think compensation for my role is fair, but you can probably find 10% higher numbers for the same positions at a different company in the sector. Moving to this position was a 75% pay bump from my last job though, so I’m not complaining too much. -Lots of the usual government red-tape and paperwork woes. Transitioning from private industry to a DoD aerospace & defense contractor can be cumbersome, but this isn’t too much of a negative. More of a slightly annoyance than a real con. -Funding & funding approval process can also be equally cumbersome/confusing sometimes. -The health insurance plans through Cigna are not great. -Lot of departments don’t give WFH options even though the remote capabilities are there. A big percentage of the company has transitioned to WFH or hybrid which would personally be a welcome option if extended to everyone, but many departments just do not allow that for some reason - at least in Greenville. -Greenville is out in the boonies and many people have to commute all the way from parts of DFW. This is not the company’s fault and is more of a personal con, but it’s still a major black spot if you’re one of the many people that have to commute from out of town. -Company is growing extremely fast. Over 40% of L3Harris employees have been here less than 2 years, including me. It seems like there are some growing pains as the company goes from big to ultra-big after the Harris merger, but this is natural and the company is doing a decent job at keeping up with the growth. -No stock options if you’re not C-suite. Disappointing, but also understandable due to the sheer size/maturity of the company. -Inclusion efforts have been great, but I would personally like a little more diversity. L3Harris has been pushing hard on the D&I front, but there is still a way to go in terms of actually having a more diverse workforce in many departments.
