I worked at LA GARCONNE full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I had worked at La Garçonne for over 6 years and my overall experience had been a positive one. It was a company where I grew a lot, my role and position progressed rapidly, and I had a sense of job security. They do try to create a family environment and bring employees closer, I remember lots of parties both in office and out of office. In my 6 years there, I rarely had conflict with any of the managers or the owners....

    Cons

There was a high turnover rate, and at times too much work to successfully complete in a day. To potential new hires - I wouldn't be too put off by all the negative reviews. For me LG was more than a resume builder, but because of my time with them, it had opened up opportunities around the world. I'm grateful for my time and experience with them.

I worked at LA GARCONNE full-time for less than a year

    Pros

There are only 2 pros I can think of: 1) Because management is so bad, a lot of the people bond over that and become very close over shared experiences. There are some great people that work at the company who unfortunately are not valued or respected by the founders, and I will definitely keep in touch and hold onto the friendships that I made there. 2) Working there will teach you exactly how you should NOT run a business...

    Cons

I truly think the only reason they've survived this long and been able to get away with treating people the way they do is they take advantage of the fact that most people are young and right out of college. I REALLY wish I took the Glassdoor reviews more seriously before agreeing to work there but I didn't think it would be as bad as it was (I assumed it was just your stereotypical overworking/underpaying fashion job,...

    Advice to Management

I suggest taking a course in communication and how to treat people to improve management skills and retain employees. It comes down to a basic level of respect.

I worked at LA GARCONNE full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Looks good from the outside

    Cons

Unfortunately is still run like a start-up trying to find it's feet, despite its age. Employee turn-over is extremely quick, for reasons you can probably determine from previous reviews. This means there is constant scrambling to stay on top of everything. Not a lot of respect from management for employees.

I worked at LA GARCONNE full-time

    Pros

You’re surrounded by really great high end brands. Some great team members, usually the newer ones unfortunately that don’t last long.

    Cons

CEO Kris treats all employees with no respect - store staff maybe slightly better. Incredibly rude, micro manages, instills fear in everyone, yells, sighs, brings her kids to work, has crazy mood swings, does not trust any of her employees, is stingy with pay and vacation days, tells employers off for laughing etc etc. all of the bad reviews on here are true. Run away! Honestly so disappointing as I had a lot of respect...

    Advice to Management

Get a management team perhaps. No HR or management so nothing improves.

I worked at LA GARCONNE full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

One of the first that introduced a curated e-commerce experience but that was 13 YEARS AGO. Great brands to work with.

    Cons

I worked for this company for 5+ years in a senior role for 4 of those years. You’re probably thinking, seems odd to work somewhere for so long and rank this company so low + read all of the other negative reviews (which are 100% accurate). La Garconne is a very difficult environment to work in. The founder has favorites, so if you’re her flavor of the week, month or year working at LG is more manageable, you’re left...

    Advice to Management

Strip away your old bad habits and thoughts on how companies should be operated and WAKE UP. Use your energy that can enact change or else you will be left in the dust like you already have been. OR sell your company for a lower price because it isn’t going to get any better and teach your daughter how not to work for a woman like you.

I have been working at LA GARCONNE

    Pros

The artistic direction is beautiful. That’s pretty much it.

    Cons

The company founder is absolutely unstable. She’s crazy, stay away. No respect for her employees who are extremely talented and hard working. Very irrational and tyrannical

    Advice to Management

Step down and bring in a more rational CEO or your company will not survive

I worked at LA GARCONNE full-time

    Pros

Great fashion. Some nice people to work with.

    Cons

Everything else. There's a climate of terror among the employees, created by the owner (Kris Kim) that prevents the employees to speak up for themselves, in fear of being fired from one day to the other (which is a very real possibility - read below). Here's my personal experience in it (I've worked there for about 4 months). During the hiring process, the owner mentioned to me that the company was looking...

    Advice to Management

    - Develop your own vision, instead of changing it every two days based on your competitors' websites and attempting to replicate their visual approach and concepts - Learn that a great company is not only based on the owner's personality, but it's also built on the work of all the employees, who deserve to be treated fairly and not being scared of raising their concerns or making suggestions for the company's improvement,...

I have been working at LA GARCONNE full-time for less than a year

    Pros

-Aesthetic and styling are great. -Can be given a lot of responsibility, which is great for experience.

    Cons

-The reviews are not exaggerating when high turnover rates are mentioned. I saw someone last two days, not because they did anything wrong, but because Kris is aggressively committed to resetting and refilling positions. -The owners don't really make an effort to introduce themselves to new hires or interns. -Kris micromanages and is far too controlling of art direction. She has such a singular vision of what "chic"...

    Advice to Management

-Asking for a HR department would clearly be too much for them, but do actually make an effort to reach out and find/hire a talent manager to source employees for the company.

"Believe the negative reviews and head for the hills."

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

I worked at LA GARCONNE full-time

    Pros

Some good people working there but they do not last long because they are never given any autonomy or trusted to make decisions.

    Cons

The tyranny is run by a duo who do not communicate to each other and have no regard for their employees needs and well being. Processes change on a whim and whole days are wasted for which you are expected to make up for. No HR dept. means no one too turn to when your paycheck is late again or you are verbally berated. Extremely high rate of turnaround tells the story.

    Advice to Management

    Stop having delusions of grandeur.
