I have been working at LA Inc. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Laid back atmosphere, friendly coworkers, collaborative environment and friendly culture that tries hard to please its employees. Upper management is trying hard to make this organization world-class and the best in the business. Many departments are at the top of their game in the tourism marketing industry. It feels good to work for a company at the top of its game. Benefits like 401k plan and insurance and vacation are top notch, competitive with other top companies.

    Cons

It takes a long time — months — to hire and fill a slot, sometimes making it counterproductive. Salaries are moderate, although management says it’s competitive. Don’t expect to get rich working here. Instead, work here for the pleasure of making a difference for the city of Los Angeles, and as the brand ambassador for one of the greatest cities in the world. Not many jobs in Los Angeles carry this kind of power.

    Advice to Management

You’re doing a good job of making this company better. I see the rapid improvement and high quality of people you hire. Good job.

I worked at LA Inc. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, 401K, and pay. Downtown location is conveniently close to shops, restaurants & stores.

    Cons

Very political environment, some people are not very friendly making it feel like a robot atmosphere. Billing department is a mess. High turnover in the Tourism department due to the Directors bullying & harassment of their employees. Upper management turns a blind eye and HR is just as non responsive. Hiring process is very lengthy too, jobs are posted and 6 months later, still not filled due to managers being "too busy" for anything else.

    Advice to Management

Take a close look at financials of certain employees who are misappropriating funds and lying on their expenses.

I worked at LA Inc. full-time

    Pros

The trade partners are fun to work with and the work is both interesting and rewarding. It's nice to help one of the greatest cities in the world grow economically.

    Cons

Very political environment where form matters over substance. It's a superficial organization where you have to constantly look over your shoulder. Bullying is also a part of the culture.

    Advice to Management

Stop allowing bullying. Focus on substance rather than form. It's an office not a hotel management team.

    Pros

'Los Angeles' itself is a powerful brand. If you work for a company which claims to be the 'brand ambassador' or marketing partner for the city, you will automatically gain lot of credibility.

    Cons

Lack of business focus and vision
A standard policy of 'No Decision is the Best Decision'.

    Advice to Management

People management is a sensitive area, which needs lot of commitment from the leadership.
My advice to LA INC leadership team is that prior to assigning people management responsibility to any individual, make sure that they are qualified and 'professionally' secured and 'successful 'people. No company is bad and no employee leaves the company. We simply leave the poor managers!

I worked at LA Inc. full-time

    Pros

Laid back environment, flexible schedule, perks, if people respect your work your voice is heard, opportunity to meet people and network.

    Cons

It is a small company, so if you are a challenge seeker, you may get bored after a couple of years. Negotiate a high salary because raises are very small.

I have been working at LA Inc. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Exposure to a variety of people in a number of different industries.
    Ample networking opportunities.
Perks particular to the travel industry.
    Opportunity to travel.

    Cons

    Very disorganized and unfocused.
Favoritism. Likeable and friend does not always translate into capable.
Nonsensical job titles that have no real equivalent outside LA Inc.
Indecisive department heads that cause longer working hours for staff in order to meet the deadlines set by those same indecisive department heads.

    Advice to Management

Decide on a plan of action and stick to it.
Open your minds to new ideas.
    Listen to the members.
Ensure managers are really qualified and can handle their positions BEFORE they are promoted.
