I have been working at LEARN Charter School full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Access to all levels of the company, I've had personal conversations with our HR Team, Diverse Learning Team, Teaching and Learning Team, and even our CEO.

    - Those people LISTEN. Seeing the CEO's board meeting notes and seeing things that teachers have brought up as issues highlighted to discuss.

    - Depending on the school- Administration is approachable and helpful.

    - The kids and families are lovely.

    - The support when the kids and families aren't great is awesome.

    - The teaching and learning department is amazing. The focus on academic support for teachers is something that makes LEARN stand out against all of the other charters out there.

    Cons

    - The school year/ school day is long.

    - The neighborhoods can be dangerous. (but every school has MANY security measures/plans in place to keep everyone safe)

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work. Keep expanding the Teaching and Learning department. Small class sizes would make a HUGE difference.

*Giving expectations to execute interventions without proper training
*Network is driving by test scores, attendance, and opening more schools

    Advice to Management

    *Support your staff
    *"Practice what you preach"

I have been working at LEARN Charter School full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

most of the teachers, staff & students are great. but the ones that are bad are really bad.

    Cons

awful schedule for teachers & parapros: 7:45-4:15 daily. Students exhausted by end of day also. Tons of paperwork. Bad behavior prob kids in every class distract the good students from learning. No support from admin with these students. Half of teaching staff leaves every year.

    Advice to Management

get a decent discipline program! listen to your teachers. principal obsessed with numbers, not student growth or teacher retention

I worked at LEARN Charter School full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of the students are nice.

    Cons

LEARN places corporate interests above student and teacher needs. They are dishonest, disloyal, and disrespectful. Do not take a teaching job here.

    Pros

Teachers individualize the curriculum and use data to navigate teaching.

    Cons

Administration changed over time and became more cookie cutter in regards to what is being taught and paperwork. Teachers were managed minute by minute with a strict schedule and no time carved out for transitions. Teachers barely had enough preparation time due to meetings with administration. There's a lot of pressure put on teachers but little time is given to accomplish these things. Behavior among students worsened dramatically year after year; there were minimal consequences for their actions so teachers felt unsupported. Although I had strong classroom management skills, it felt like teaching became more about behavior management versus actual instruction.

    Advice to Management

Support your teachers more-not so much in the professional development sense but rather creating a supportive environment with adequate breaks and prep time.

I have been working at LEARN Charter School full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I work on the administrative end, but I love working out of a school where I can see the immediate impact of my work in the kids. The staff are all amazing -- smart, hard working, fun to be around, and supportive.

    Cons

Lots of fires to put out, lots to do with too little time in the day -- it can get very stressful at times.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the push to engage with all staff across the network. I think this will be a game changer for the culture.

    Pros

I've interned at LEARN every summer for a few years now, and every year I am exposed to something different, walking out knowing more than I came in with. This past summer I worked with the marketing department. Though I hadn't taken any previous marketing courses, my manager understood that it was my intended major so she allowed me to work on meaningful projects alongside her as well as independently. This hands on experience allowed me to learn so much about marketing and branding that I am not only confident that I will do well in my upcoming marketing courses, but I am also confident this is the career path I am going to pursue. The internship also provided me with great professional development and networking opportunities and the chance to lead. I was allowed to host a professional development for high school interns as well as speak to scholars of the incoming 8th grade class. All in all, I had a very worthwhile intern experience and I would urge all other alumni and eligible candidates to apply.

    Cons

    This experiences included zero negatives

    Pros

Learn is an amazing place to grow professionally. I consider my team members and scholars here my second family. I am so grateful and proud to be apart of this team that pushes you to be great everyday. The staff support is amazing from giving educational guidance or just simply stepping up and helping when difficult situations may occur. I am very dedicated to Learn and would encourage others to join this amazing team.

    Cons

Learn has a shorter summer break than most Charter or CPS schools.
