I have been working at LEARN Charter School full-time

    Pros

LEARN is truly a great place to work. Both leadership and staff are committed to scholars' success. The Senior Leadership and CEO work hard to remove barriers and obstacles that impede student achievement. Schools feel like places of learning and are really trying to eliminate the achievement gap. There is no silver bullet in urban education, and LEARN is getting in right in terms of pushing for equity in urban education.

    Cons

Current Talent Crisis/Educator Shortage, Hard To Fill Key Vacancies

    Advice to Management

    Continue to Invest all Stakeholders

I have been working at LEARN Charter School full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The pros of working for this network are: teachers genuinely care about educated scholars, accessibility to the CMO, a network of qualified and dedicated employees, a CMO that listens to feedback

    Cons

The long school year. Constant changes at the CMO level.

    Advice to Management

Continue to keep scholars first and listen to survey feedback.

I have been working at LEARN Charter School full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have been employed as a member of the LEARN community for 4.5 months and I most deeply appreciate how accessible my principal is. I have scheduled bi-weekly check-ins where I have the opportunity to brainstorm, share concerns, inquire about opportunities and resources, ask questions, gain advice, or problem solve around challenging students. I am clear on what is expected of me as it has been articulated and reinforced. My peers are supportive and played a pivotal role in ensuring I experienced a smooth transition 3.5 months into the school year. There are countless opportunities for staff bonding and rapport building. Parents are accessible and are engaged in their child's growth and holistic development.

    Cons

Shorter Summer Break than Chicago Public Schools, some materials do not have multiple copies so teachers/students need to share certain teacher editions and make copies from blank student work books.

    Advice to Management

Build upon the way you invest staff members in student growth by providing incentives and opportunities for members to earn performance based bonuses (i.e. additional personal days, or cash bonuses for observation ratings of Proficient/ Exemplary). Inform staff of upcoming professional development opportunities.

    Pros

    Cons

Not many, but a great place to collaborate with committed teachers.

    Advice to Management

Keep listening to your great employees!
