I worked at LEWIS Global Communications full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people at LEWIS are amazing - they made it worth showing up to work. There is an opportunity to grow and climb the ranks if you are aggressive and put in the work. Excellent amount of PTO - if you can find a time you are allowed to take it. It's a global company which can give you exposure to other markets if you are lucky enough to be on one of the few international accounts.

    Cons

LEWIS is growing, the profitable agency - but for all the wrong reasons. LEWIS has slowly been drained of lots of its best employees due to constant overworking and a lack of recruitment efforts. The average team members are spread very thin and forced to work extremely hard and long hours - more so than your typical agency. This has caused a poor and negative working environment which is especially sad because the...

    Advice to Management

Take a second to recognize your employees are the ones keeping your clients happy. If your employees aren't happy, your clients won't be happy for long. You need to invest actual MONEY in your teams - new teams, time off, equipment, benefits, bonuses, etc. Young employees joining the company need training and access to managers/seasoned employees who can give them in-depth advice to help them learn and grow. As it...

I worked at LEWIS Global Communications full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Some good people, decent office space in SF

    Cons

Terrible culture, very clicky. You are expected to work very long hours with no comp time. Management has only one way of doing things, outside ideas are not welcome and clients can be very boring

    Advice to Management

Stop treating people like a cog in a wheel

I have been working at LEWIS Global Communications full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Really fun culture, great benefits and impressive roster of clients (big data and security). The company is growing, but what makes it the best are the people. There is ton of opportunity for personal growth. PR can be stressful, but LEWIS tries to help employees maintain work/life balance.

    Cons

Not enough senior management. The majority of employees are young, but the company needs leaders with more experience who can actually lead a team and get things done. It can also become really cliquey and there is a ton of gossip. There needs to be more professionalism through leadership, rather than allow the office to feel sometimes like a high school filled with gossip.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees.

I have been working at LEWIS Global Communications full-time

    Pros

LEWIS has an energetic, fun culture and one of the best parts about working here is the people. Everyone on my team is friendly, outgoing and supportive in terms of being willing to help out. The company shows a genuine interest in its culture, with active measures taken by management to implement things like rewards, shortened hours, and new kinds of training programs. The work itself is fast-paced and exciting – you’ll...

    Cons

Occasional long hours but nothing outside of the norm. Primarily B2B technology clients so need to have an interest in tech.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in your culture and employees. The people are what make LEWIS great.

I worked at LEWIS Global Communications full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great client list, decent pay, bagel fridays, good office location.

    Cons

Extremely young management who have received promotions before they deserve it. You can't have 24 year olds in Sr. and Director level positions when their only experience comes from one agency. Any new ideas or outside perspective is immediately thrown out, and you are then viewed as a threat to their status quo. Completely and utterly dominated as a 'Girls Club' (the offices is 95% women) and if you are not in the...

    Advice to Management

Hire some management with actual experience who understand how an agency works. Promoting your 'besties' from within is a terrible business model.

    Pros

International opps, growing fast, smart, fun employees.

    Cons

Growing too fast for teams to handle, need to be pickier about which clients we work with, management needs help.

    Advice to Management

Pay close attention to who on your team is positively contributing and who isn't.

I have been working at LEWIS Global Communications full-time for more than a year

    Pros

LEWIS doesn't place a cap on anyone's growth. If you want to try a new project, learn a new skill, take on new responsibility - LEWIS will help you do just that, as long as you speak up. No matter what level of seniority you are, LEWIS will support your career interests and goals. As a digital communications agency, this also means that employees can go beyond traditional PR skills and truly embrace creativity in their...

    Cons

Every so often an employee joins that doesn't quite fit culturally. In an office of 15 people or less, one or two people can make quite the difference in the work environment and team dynamic. That being said, it becomes pretty clear when one person is spreading negativity or doesn't support teamwork in the office. I've seen cases where dedicated line-managers can turn that attitude around, as well as scenarios where...

I worked at LEWIS Global Communications

    Pros

I had a very small team that was always willing to help, come up with creative ways to help develop our clients and I learned a great deal about social media.

    Cons

When I left LEWIS, I was depressed, haggard, and felt like an old machine that had been used up and spit out. I was fortunate to have a team that disliked our manager and the working conditions at LEWIS as much as I did and we were always willing to help each other. LEWIS promises incentives to employees and to their clients but in the end cannot deliver. Aside from the fact that upper management and the VPs are completely...

I have been working at LEWIS Global Communications

    Pros

This agency works with some really interesting tech companies, so you are able to really diversify your portfolio of work.

    Cons

Understaffed (because people keep leaving), VERY long hours, expected to work above and beyond without any incentive or even gratitude. VPs have little leadership skills, almost downright mean to individuals in the office. This agency defines the phrase "burn and churn."

    Advice to Management

Instead of watching what is going on, step in an help other employees. Stopped counting how many times someone would get belittled in front of everyone and then later senior management would say "I know you are under a lot of stress....but I have more work for you...." To make it worse everyone in the company (worldwide) knows certain US execs are bad and lead to high turnover but NOTHING is done.
