I worked at LEWIS Global Communications full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people at LEWIS are amazing - they made it worth showing up to work. There is an opportunity to grow and climb the ranks if you are aggressive and put in the work. Excellent amount of PTO - if you can find a time you are allowed to take it. It's a global company which can give you exposure to other markets if you are lucky enough to be on one of the few international accounts.

    Cons

LEWIS is growing, the profitable agency - but for all the wrong reasons. LEWIS has slowly been drained of lots of its best employees due to constant overworking and a lack of recruitment efforts. The average team members are spread very thin and forced to work extremely hard and long hours - more so than your typical agency. This has caused a poor and negative working environment which is especially sad because the...

    Advice to Management

Take a second to recognize your employees are the ones keeping your clients happy. If your employees aren't happy, your clients won't be happy for long. You need to invest actual MONEY in your teams - new teams, time off, equipment, benefits, bonuses, etc. Young employees joining the company need training and access to managers/seasoned employees who can give them in-depth advice to help them learn and grow. As it...

    Pros

Good clients, some good people, good client roster

    Cons

Very cliquey, if you aren't the VP's favorite, it's not worth it.

    Pros

Fast moving agency with a few creative clients. Generally the team working here are fun and they have a nice location in downtown San Francisco.

    Cons

The CEO can be a narcissistic, mercurial tyrant. Leadership is trying to change things but this company is focused on making money at the expense of its employees.

    Advice to Management

    Start valuing your employees

    Pros

LEWIS is an amazing place to grow your career. There are opportunities to learn everywhere you turn. Between formal training workshops and on-the-job learning, everyone can develop skills for both the job they are in and their next one. There are lots of opportunities to move up in your career as well. Promotions are announced regularly and many of our managers have been here since early on in their careers. My...

Agency life is not for everyone. It's very fast-paced and clients can be demanding.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. The regular communications from Sr. Management are great. I love hearing what is going on with the business and in the other offices.

    Pros

Good pay if senior, otherwise you're a beggar

    Cons

Everything else. CEO is never visible or communicates with employees. Culture is slim to none, with over promises and poor morale. Management is not qualified and turnover is huge, with consistent leaves and lay offs. HR is unprofessional. Plenty of other agencies that are better.

    Advice to Management

Be real to your employees and make the culture more enticing for others to stay. Be honest about company future and clients.

    Pros

This agency offers employees the opportunity to work with large-scale multinational brands and companies. Employees are invited and encouraged to produce company sponsored media events and webinars, which is a great experience. If you land on the right team, you’ll get a chance to work on high profile projects. The growth track is fairly rapid, so if you’re bright and willing to work hard, you’ll find yourself promoted...

    Cons

While there are growth opportunities, the San Francisco office was built by leaders who valued politics and status quo over progress and development. The office environment is chaotic and combative. Cross-functional teams are often at odds with each other, which causes perpetual project and deliverable delays. Employees are rewarded for aggressive, school-yard bullying behavior with coveted clients and projects, causing...

    Advice to Management

Take employee concerns seriously and lead by example. Take note of heavy turn-over across certain departments - this may mean the wrong people are at the helm. Consider localizing agency business structure for the US, as certain practices established in the UK create a restrictive business growth over seas.

    Pros

I've never worked with a more talented group of people. At every level, the team at LEWIS is smart, motivated and passionate about what they do. Even more, this is a place where everyone has a voice. If you're new to communications, or early in your career, you can learn by working side-by-side with experienced PR, marketing and social media professionals. And if you're experienced, there is plenty of opportunity to...

Change is in the air - at LEWIS and in the larger industry we play in. For the willing, its an exciting time and an opportunity to learn and grow. For others, its a time to reassess priorities. Either way, change is hard.

    Advice to Management

    - Keep thinking big picture with an eye toward our digital future. - Keep working to integrate teams across disciplines. - Keep investing in your employees. The training is amazing and not something many agencies take the time to do. - Take care of the leaders who have stepped up to help grow and build the business, and find ways to reward the staff that continue to put their faith in the ...

I worked at LEWIS Global Communications full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The people on the teams are amazing. Hands down, they're the best part of working there. There is an unmatched sense of camaraderie and teamwork, and a commitment to client service that I've not seen in any other agency environment. If you're young and looking for some quick "trial by fire" experience in PR or marketing, this could be a good place to start your career.

    Cons

The problem is that the office is now basically run by an HR department with an agenda. The person who is supposed to be managing the business is based in San Francisco and has left day-to-day operations with HR, which doesn't make a lot of sense. With no one at the helm, it's easy to get distracted from client work, especially when you're drowning in red tape, interoffice politics and other unnecessary drama. Things...
