I have been working at LEWIS Global Communications full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I've never worked with a more talented group of people. At every level, the team at LEWIS is smart, motivated and passionate about what they do. Even more, this is a place where everyone has a voice. If you're new to communications, or early in your career, you can learn by working side-by-side with experienced PR, marketing and social media professionals. And if you're experienced, there is plenty of opportunity to...

    Cons

Change is in the air - at LEWIS and in the larger industry we play in. For the willing, its an exciting time and an opportunity to learn and grow. For others, its a time to reassess priorities. Either way, change is hard.

    Advice to Management

    - Keep thinking big picture with an eye toward our digital future. - Keep working to integrate teams across disciplines. - Keep investing in your employees. The training is amazing and not something many agencies take the time to do. - Take care of the leaders who have stepped up to help grow and build the business, and find ways to reward the staff that continue to put their faith in the ...

I have been working at LEWIS Global Communications

    Pros

I've been at LEWIS for several years. I think what I like the most is that my experiences change from day to day and month to month, so I get the interesting client and team experiences typically offered by agency life. Also I've been offered a lot of opportunity and recognized for good work. The company has a reputation in SD for training well, which probably has something to do with why some people stay a long time...

    Cons

Agency life can be stressful. Quick growth through acquisitions can make it hard to identify company culture.

    Advice to Management

Keep offering training so staff can keep up with the flexibility in services offered to clients. Focus on culture.

I worked at LEWIS Global Communications full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Aggressive global PR firm moving quickly to acquire its way into the top 10 firms in the world. 'Gets' social media and is focusing resources to win big accounts

    Cons

The firm could hire more talented people and develop them at the entry level so they stay. In their early days they clearly had a culture that attracted and kept talent. Not sure that is true today.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on employee development and grow your junior people. The churn is too high in the U.S.

I have been working at LEWIS Global Communications

    Pros

There are two main reasons I work at LEWIS – the culture and the way they treat their people. Let’s be honest, there are lots of agencies to choose from in SF, and it can be hard to differentiate between all of them. Based on my experience, the atmosphere at LEWIS- the people, the management and the general ethos of the company- are very unique. It’s obvious LEWIS puts a huge emphasis on being a special place to work...

    Cons

In line with the ‘entrepreneurial’ spirit is most definitely a work ethic bearing some resemblance to that of a startup. We do work hard. But I would challenge you to find an agency that doesn’t occasionally have a late night or early morning pitching shift. If you’re looking for a place where you get out at 5pm on the dot every day, you shouldn’t just avoid LEWIS, you should probably avoid PR or agency life in general....

I worked at LEWIS Global Communications

    Pros

I thought the salary/benefits offered was quite good. Also, there are several employees who are hard-working, dedicated and willing to pitch in on various projects and support co-workers. Also, I give the company credit for keeping up-to-date on social media trends and being proactive about acquiring new campaigns and clients.

    Cons

I found the "open office" workspace very distracting. I know the objective is to create a newsroom feel but guess what -- this is not CNN. This is a business dedicated to client service and I thought the 10 disparate co-worker conversations, ringing phones, and two TVs really sapped my productivity when it came to specific tasks. But that's just me. I remember I had a sinking feeling my first day on the job that I...

    Advice to Management

Think about employees as people rather than cogs in the machine. Care about your high turnover and look at why that is. When people (and I saw several) happily resign during a recession - with no job waiting for them - you have a problem.

I worked at LEWIS Global Communications

    Pros

I had a very small team that was always willing to help, come up with creative ways to help develop our clients and I learned a great deal about social media.

    Cons

When I left LEWIS, I was depressed, haggard, and felt like an old machine that had been used up and spit out. I was fortunate to have a team that disliked our manager and the working conditions at LEWIS as much as I did and we were always willing to help each other. LEWIS promises incentives to employees and to their clients but in the end cannot deliver. Aside from the fact that upper management and the VPs are completely...

    Pros

    - Junior and mid-level employees were nice - Clients are interesting - Knowledge of social media better than other firms

    Cons

Workload: Mangement doesn't understand the first thing about employee workloads with employees. They give youv a ton of small accounts to work on and expect for you to deliver the earth and the sun as though you're working with a $15K budget. When you're not smiling and dialing you're tasked with creating client facing documents that they provide no guidance or feedback on until the very end wherer they tell you it's...

    Advice to Management

Get it our of your heads that you are the best. Every firm says that. Show people by retaining top talent and by creating innovative campaigns for clients that drive tangible results beyond a clip count. Additionally, invest in the remaining talent the company has left otherwise you will continue management in it's current poor fashion.
