I have been working at LORD Corporation (More than 3 years)

    Pros

LORD has a culture of inclusiveness and helpfulness. The rest of the team is ready and willing to help you succeed. The majority of employees are highly competent, and management does a good job directing team efforts. Moving within the organization is possible, and opportunities arise regularly.

    Cons

Very few downsides, LORD is an excellent company. My main criticism is of management's focus on developing talent and facilitating growth opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Work with employees to create growth and development opportunities.

I have been working at LORD Corporation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They are rather flexible with schedules. There is always interesting work. The projectd provide challenges at every step. They pay me.

    Cons

It seems to be difficult to rise from within. Management is not always looking out for the interest of their workers.

    Advice to Management

Trim the middle. There is significant bloat at the middle management level that is not adding value.

I worked at LORD Corporation as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Friendly work environment. Seemed like employees had a good work/life balance.

    Cons

Compensation isn't very competitive. You can get hired at a competitive salary OK, but end up gradually falling behind each year when merit rolls around. There are few opportunities for training outside the company so it's extremely difficult keeping your skills current. Interdepartmental relationships seemed stressed.

    Advice to Management

Place more emphasis on loyalty to your employees.

I worked at LORD Corporation as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Was a great way to get a foot hold in the door, and learn the basics.

    Cons

They atmosphere was, just really boring. It was nice to walk in with some new tank or vehicle at the front door, but, overall attitudes were boring and dull.

I worked at LORD Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Benefits and work-life balance.

    Cons

Leadership is poor, especially in Aerospace and Defense. Small company that thinks they are Boeing or GE. They are very impressed with themselves with really no reason to be.

    Advice to Management

    Resign and move on.

I worked at LORD Corporation (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company has decent benefits and low pay.

    Cons

Everything else. Cronyism at its finest. Lack of diversity and a very uncomfortable environment. Hated every minute there and glad I left.

    Advice to Management

It's 2016, diversity in the work place should be common place.... Get out of the 1950s!

I have been working at LORD Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The best I can offer is the medical benefits are second to none. $200 family co-pay and 100% coverage after that!. You just don't find that kind of coverage anymore. Next are flex days. Work nine 9 hour days and take the 10th (Friday) off. It's not a bad place to work if you're not looking for the best compensation.

    Cons

Compensation isn't very competitive. You can get hired at a competitive salary OK, but end up gradually falling behind each year when merit rolls around. There are few opportunities for training outside the company so it's extremely difficult keeping your skills current.

    Advice to Management

LORD was a great company to work for most of my career. It was a close knit family company with rock solid business plan where you could count on providing for your family right through retirement. Now a days it seems LORD is content to be like every other company. Most of the best talent has left or been let go. What remains will leave or retire in the next 10 years. Senior management has not been held accountable for some bad business decisions involving acquisitions, protecting against currency devaluations, not to mention getting into oil and gas at the worst possible time. My advice would be to go back to your roots. Concentrate on what we're good at. The rest will take care of itself.
