I have been working at La Quinta full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fun, friendly coworkers, awesome GM, great benefits, 7 paid vacation days a year, discount on hotel stays, benefits, light stress, down time between guests. Some days, allot more down time than others. Casual but professional work environment.

    Cons

You may have to work a double shift if your relief calls in or you may work past your 8 hours if your relief is late. And you may get talked to about your overtime from management, which is out of your control when your relief is late. After 3pm, you are the only one working- which can get a little stressful during rushes.

    Advice to Management

Reprimand employees who are constantly late to every shift. Then they might not walk all over everyone and start respecting others time. Have 2 people cover the desk during the 2nd shift on Friday and Saturdays.

I worked at La Quinta full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Front desk itself is a great job. Most of the time, guests are happy and easy. There was little to none co-worker interaction on 2nd and 3rd shift. Usually had lots of down time to do whatever I wanted as long as I could take care of the desk too.

    Cons

Management would tell you to enforce certain policies with guests then when the guests would complain, management would scold you for doing exactly what they just told you to do. No breaks at the desk. Our hotel didn't have security and only one person worked third shift. Management tried to tell me I had to open the doors (that auto-locked after midnight and needed a room key for access) for potential guests that might come in during third. Nope. Not as a woman alone there. If your relief shift didn't show up, management constantly didn't answer the phone and you had to work doubles. Management would also have the front desk employees who were aiming for a promotion do their job as incentive to "prove ourselves." i.e. corporate slavery. AND IT ALWAYS SMELLED LIKE WET DOG AND CAT PEE.

    Advice to Management

Don't expect employees getting paid $10-13/hr to do your job, someone else's job, and put themselves in danger.
