I worked at La Senza full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The hardworking associates I had the pleasure of working with (until they slowly started resigning).

    Cons

Lack of leadership from store manager. She spent all of her time locked in her office and had no idea what was happening on the floor. In all of my years of management experience, I have never worked under someone more absent. While we all ran the sales floor and produced numbers, she had no clue about the business. She never scheduled herself on weekends (the busiest days in a week for retail), and when she was there, was never available. I'd like to get paid to be locked in an office, giggling on my cell phone, too.

    Advice to Management

Corporate should send in random, secret shoppers. For the sake of saving face and keeping customers and associates, be more involved in the business.

I worked at La Senza full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Strong leaders, knowledgeable employees, learning from the best, creative environment, the building is amazing (in house Starbucks, cafeteria, workout classes, decor feels like a home), sense of excitement, discount for all L Brands companies, work-life balance

    Cons

Takes a long time to move up but when you do, you can feel confident that you are ready, you have your share of cliques and snootiness, fire drills, pressure to please, and the pressure of having to compete with the best and most talented

    Advice to Management

Amazing job! The only critique would be to give more notice so there are less fire drills. It causes a lot of stress on the team. Other than that, please never leave! :)

I worked at La Senza full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-The prestige of being in the family of brands owned by LBrands
-Home office perks, e.g. staff parties, expense accounts, location, discounts, excellent benefits, etc.
-If you become one of the pets of the leadership team you will get promotions, extensive travel and you will either get your way or get a lot of help with your category - If you are not one of the pets, good luck doing your work to anyone's satisfaction or receiving recognition for your accomplishments.

    Cons

-This is NOT a place to work as a designer. They will say again and again and again, "Merchant Led. Design inspired." If you're a merchant great, if you're a designer, you're a copycat doing knock-offs from competitor samples.
    -Long hours
-Chaotic scheduling and calendar changes at the last minute - do not expect to ever fully use your vacation time
-Office cliques and politics rule all decision making
-The leadership team does not value the integrity of their designers' work.
    -Fickle leadership
    -Unstable category/product organization
-Ownership of categories can - and will - change at any time depending on "business needs."
-It seems that the company was added to the family of brands as a safe testing ground for tricky concepts in other divisions (i.e. PINK and Victoria's Secret) so that sales results could be determined on new product without hurting the market share and sales of the other brands.

    Advice to Management

The potential of the brand is being strangled. It is bleeding talent and squandering opportunities. It's as if it has no identity of it's own. It is a lingerie brand "creatively" run by finance. There is no heart. No guidance. No direction. It seems like leadership is slowly riding the brand into the ground while waiting on some opportunity to sell it off, which may never come. I do not believe that a role for anyone in that environment could be properly set up to succeed.
