I worked at LaGuardia Community College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Extremely understanding supervisors who really care about your wellbeing, free food sometimes, free cake once a month.

    Cons

Other colleagues' supervisors don't treat you well.

    Advice to Management

Teach supervisors of different departments to take the needs of other departments' college assistants with the same respect, care and niceness they treat their college assistants with.

I worked at LaGuardia Community College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good staff once you get close to them. Once you're close with the staff they start to treat you with respect but not anytime prior.

    Cons

Some of the rudest and disrespectful people you could be working with. No one wants to talk to you, no one will treat you with respect until you have worked there for a month(This includes a small amount of the larger interns), and the people you deal with are infuriating.

    Advice to Management

    Be less rude

I worked at LaGuardia Community College full-time

    Pros

    None, avoid at all costs.

    Cons

There are so many cons for this place. There is no respect here for assistant professors especially women. You are forced to do a lot of committee work which will not help your career or your students. They will even advise you to cancel your classes to sit in long meetings that have nothing to do with college classes.

They will not pay you as promised, this is more of a CUNY wide issue but due to those who work in LaGuardia's many offices being unwilling to do their job, answer phone calls and emails there will be a lot of mistakes with your pay. I still have not received my last pay from them and it has been months since I left.

There will be no one who will help or assist you when these problems go wrong because everyone is overworked and in meetings all the time.

Students are treated badly and in turn will treat you badly because the system is full of people who are overworked and because they are friends with someone important, they will never be admonished.

They run this place as if it is a high intensive research university but give the faculty no time to focus on their research and they try to push you to only do research in pedagogy, and topics they want.

All offices are not working properly including the print center and places where you rely on in order to get your class prep completed.

They promise pay for work and then they will not pay you even if you have a contract in writing. Others working here will not help because they either have tenure and feel like that's all they needed from their life at LaGcc or they want tenure and are too afraid to speak up and stand together.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees and treat your employees with respect.
Run the school like it is an actual community college because some people want to focus on their teaching and not committee work and pedagogy research.
Also the long tedious evaluations are a waste of time. People should not have to write books on what they do each year at work.

I have been working at LaGuardia Community College full-time

    Pros

    Extremely Diverse Culture; Excellent Faculty

    Cons

President only cares about her portfolio, constantly hires incompemetent Vice Presidents and Deans. Recent VP, who somehow got hired as President somewhere else constantly hired friends from his church without the right education or background. People changes jobs every year- constantly creating new programs which mak e no sense, fail, then next year change to a new program, change peoples titles, then this fails- year after year. If you speak up, no one cares and just sweep problems under rug.

    Advice to Management

As someone said, they won't care, so not worth writing anything
