Great for Experience, But a lot of work
May 23, 2022 - QA/QC Technician in London, ONRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Overall it is a worthwhile experience, it has a lot of flaws, but a lot of perks. If you are okay with working very hard, often without breaks, or even at times days off, then you will excel in this role, and make a lot of money doing so. - Management is great - Coworkers are great - You will learn a lot, and the days go by quickly - Pay is above average for similar roles elsewhere - The schedule can be very flexible, when fully staffed - Opportunities to gain valuable skills (VPO, SDCA, PDCA, Manager Training, etc.) - Free Beer (24 cases per year) - Lots of overtime opportunities - Full-Time benefits are exceptional
Cons
- Workload is at times overwhelming - Chronically understaffed for months at a time - Turnover is very high - Shiftwork - Previously difficult to get Full-time, this appears to be changing - Advancement opportunities are very rare

With that being said, we understand that workloads can sometimes be challenging at times in a company like ours. We encourage you to work with your line manager to help prioritize tasks that will create more balance in your day. Thank you again for your valuable feedback!

No direction, communication, guidance or development. Horrendous place to work! They are life ruiners.
Nov 23, 2017 - Group Manager in London, ONRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Big brand name on your resume - Salaried employees get decent overtime pay - Free beer... and you get a lot of it! That's about it.
Cons
- No training whatsoever to new group managers. Bare minimum initial orientation in the form of safety-obsessed PowerPoint presentations. - Sink or swim mentality: If you can learn very quickly and survive on your own with zero help from your backstabbers.. I mean co-workers, then you will do okay here. Otherwise you will sink and will be filtered out fairly soon. - Minimal to no communication on expectations and job performance from superiors. Your own boss will not care about you and if you don't make extra effort to over-communicate then your boss's boss may not see your value. - Ridiculously high turnover in management! After I joined, at least 3 or 4 managers quit or were let go within a span of 4 months. And people told me that this was common. - It is a snake pit! Watch out for yourself. You never know who is a friend and who is judging or reporting on you. - Supposed "old timers" assigned to train new group managers, fail to do so and are tight-lipped and unfriendly. - As group manager, you will not know who you actually report to. None of the senior managers care about your personal development on the job. - Extremely negative attitudes, opinions and airs from almost everyone, particularly the nasty trades people like mechanics and electricians who transfer their own frustrations towards unsuspecting new group managers. Really, only 2 groups of people continue to work here on a long term basis: Hourly employees highly cushioned and well-protected by a strong union and backstabbing cliquish senior managers who are looking out for nobody but themselves. The worst thing is, I actually read all the negative and cautionary reviews here and still decided to ignore them to get experience with a big brand name. Big mistake.

You gotta be a machine to make beer!
Aug 18, 2022 - Anonymous ContractorRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
-There are a few good people who you can learn from -Beer benefits (don't come with a contract role though)
Cons
-the managers are skilled but not great managers. -there's a lot of blame game, office politics. -there's no structure of working, you're basically doing everything and anything under the sun -there's no direction if you join as an entry level person. They make you do full time work for a contract pay. -there's no overtime, all though all you're doing everyday is working overtime. -they emphasize alot on Network and meeting new people and learning by doing but honestly all you do is sit in front of a laptop for more than 10 hours a day due to the workload.

Pros
Job stability and $1000 of free beer... a year lol
Cons
Management offered zero training or onboarding. They did not offer any remote working flexibility. The Planning team's managers don't care about you or helping you succeed. the benefits are way below standard compared to industry and Labatt has a work first and foremost and nothing else culture. This is not the place to grow or settle.

Great place to start your career, but not long term
Feb 5, 2021 - Planning ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
1. Lots of opportunities for developing leadership skills and work experience. 2. Hard work doesn't go unnoticed. 3. The People you work with are smart, driven and ambitious 4. Free beer and the downtown office has a Pub; health Benefits are pretty decent but you have to pay for them
Cons
1. Aggressive, sink/swim culture. Huge push on perfectionism 2. Not very competitive salary- Your salary's big portion is bonus, which gets paid out once in 4 years so negotiate a higher base. 3. They operate very lean and the turnover is high, felt like a revolving door 4. Poor work life balance, you are expected to take on more work without any additional pay. Big push on acquisitions so this piles up every year 5. Very focused on outsourcing to India and you have to constantly deal with very sub-par talent over there. 6. If you were not a part of the "`Development Program" you career growth will be very stunted. The Development program folks get precedence over everyone...its not as mertiocracy based environment they claim it to be.

The people are great and the beer process is interesting
Cons
Hard to move up in the company especially when turnover is so high. They do not like promoting people to new positions because they will have to train two people instead of 1
