    Pros

You gain high-quality, substantial experience very quickly; one of the few IP firms that will hire associates straight out of law school.

    Cons

The pay is atrocious and they start associates as hourly employees for at least six months ($20-something an hour, while billing them out at $250 an hour). The leadership is horrendous (they manage via relentless fear and shame, and wonder why associates all start leaving one they can make a lateral move in a few years; they are rude and disrespectful to all of the administrative staff; they have associates spend a lot of time on nonbillable work; they micromanage when they don't need to, yet they won't help or explain things when asked).

    Advice to Management

Pay young lawyers a decent wage and treat them with an ounce of respect, and they might stick around a little longer. Money aside, a "thank you" or "good job" goes a long way (and it's free), and yet you won't even do that. Recognize that the firm's success largely depends on the administrative staff, so stop acting like they are beneath you because you have a law degree.

    Cons

I really don't have anything negative to say. I feel really lucky to work here.

    Advice to Management

This is a great place to work. The office really cares about its people and its clients. Perhaps it should advertise more and get bigger.

I worked at Ladas & Parry LLP full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people in my area of the firm, some interesting approaches to the changing attorney/client relationship, work life balance was good and they really do care for people as people. Great client base and interesting work opportunities. They have a great law student program which is well run and gives value to students.

    Cons

Senior partner management is divided, salaries are very low and benefit costs are high, firm systems are old fashioned and largely in-house. I only received a bonus one year I was there (the bonus structure was not transparent) and never received a formal review.

    Advice to Management

People talk about the Ladas revolving door - to stop this, there needs to be a career path available, development opportunities and a better salary base or good people will come, be trained at Ladas and then have to move in and give those skills to other firms.

I worked at Ladas & Parry LLP full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you have been working in the IP industry, you know that Ladas was, for many years, considered a well-respected firm. Times have changed and this firm has not kept up. Having this firm on your resume will not damage your prospects at finding another job, but don't expect it to help much either.

    Cons

    In a nutshell:
    - lack of technology and lack of ability by attorneys to use basic technology.
    - this place heavily caters to a man's world. women are not respected.
    - negative environment.
    - client overbilling.
    - mismanagement between offices.
    - politics among partners are tense and dramatic.
    - staff are underpaid. for decades.

    Advice to Management

If you get rid of dead weight and upgrade EVERYTHING in the office, maybe you'll have a chance at remaining competitive.
