I worked at Lafarge North America part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Before the merger it was a great group of people to work with. Good managers who offered flexibility and growth.

    Cons

After the merger many of the satellite offices closed including my local office and the corporate culture seems to have changed.

    Advice to Management

Value the employees that have been with the both merged companies of the years and offer flexible schedules for happy employees.

I worked at Lafarge North America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They we high on safety, every quarter you would get a safety bonus if there was no safety issues. They really strived to make safety their number one priority.

    Cons

A lot of heavy lifting and during the winter it slowed down, but you still would work out in the cold.

I worked at Lafarge North America as an intern

    Pros

Pay was great, they provide housing and a $1000 book stipend. Large, International Company with lots of job mobility. Paid for a trip to Headquarters to learn more about the company with other Interns.

    Cons

Large company atmosphere. Management is out of touch with hourly employees, and the cement industry just isn't that interesting. Lots of moving from plant to plant for young engineers.

    Advice to Management

Remember the employees who are the ones with the boots on the ground, doing the real hard work. Find a balance between running a business and leading your employees.

I worked at Lafarge North America as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay was good, everyone I worked with was very nice, was given interesting problems to work on with plenty of visibility. The upper VP's and CEO are included in this, as I got to meet them on multiple occasions.

    Cons

Just went through a large merger, becoming LafargeHolcim. No idea if the culture, work, people, etc. will stay the same.
