I have been working at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The floor I work on has great staff nurses.

    Cons

Management does not seem to care about their staff. We are always short-staffed and the audits on small details have become overwhelming and out of control. They worry most about patient satisfaction scores and what looks best on paper, but don't take the step back to look at the big picture. They don't listen to the nurses and what they feel is right for effective/quality care. Moreover, there is no longer a relationship between nurses and doctors/residents. It's almost impossible to get orders, and when you do, it's like they are guessing or reading something off of WebMD. You rarely see them interacting at the bedside. It's sad and unfair for all parties involved. A very scary place to work right now.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to listen to your staff. Try to see things from their perspective. We all know there is a budgeting dilemma, but if you want quality care and high survey reviews, you need to hire and schedule more staff each night. There is no reason for nurses to have 5+ patients each night and 1, or sometimes no, aides on the floor. It's unsafe and inappropriate considering the acuity on the floors lately.

I worked at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Free parking for staff members

    Cons

A physician run hospital. Nurses aren’t valued and their opinions don’t matter. Constantly understaffed

    Advice to Management

Hire more staff members! Let hospital because I thought my nursing license was at risk! Very unsafe place to work as a nurse. 5:1 ratio every day on the day shift and 6-7:1 on nights. Always short Nursing assistants. Want to help your patient satisfaction scores? Staff appropriately and safely!

I have been working at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Convenient commute. Nice people to work with, you get what you give

    Cons

Too top heavy, not enough staff

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring top heavy execs and giving them raises. More help is needed everywhere. Too many managers at all levels who do nothing to help, but the entire system is understaffed with those who actually work with patients.
