I have been working at Lake Michigan College full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

People are sincerely dedicated to serve students.

    Cons

A lack of progressive thinking due to long standing administration (not the President) unwilling to embrace change.

    Advice to Management

Seek change. Embrace new ideas. Reconsider effectiveness of long term employees.

I worked at Lake Michigan College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great opportunities for some. Lots of vacation, sick time, great health insurance benefits.

    Cons

Low pay compared to private sector. Poor communication from management. Lots of gossip, buddy, buddy system and you are either "IN" or "OUT". If out, find a new job. No mentoring, real performance feedback or recognizing and utilizing an individual's strengths. Focus on their weaknesses. Some senior management are inadequately qualified and experienced for their roles. Some questionable management of college finances. Public needs to pay closer attention. Decision making is limited or strongly influenced to 1 or 2 people that are not qualified for such large financial decisions.

    Advice to Management

Don't jump to conclusions or make assumptions.

I have been working at Lake Michigan College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

LMC offers opportunities to grow and get involved in a lot of projects and initiatives. Educating students - young and not-so-young - never gets old. The satisfaction of knowing you're supporting employers with a quality workforce and contributing to the economic vitality and quality of life in southwest Michigan is very rewarding. LMC changes lives and it's in growth mode. It's a great time to be part of the organization.

    Cons

Transitions can be difficult, but change and evolution are essential.

    Advice to Management

Obtain solid people you can trust, give them full time hours and benefits, make them feel appreciated, and they will work for you forever.

    Pros

Lake Michigan College provides great opportunities for its students to learn in a very conducive environment. Highly qualified instructors are employed to work in the institution.
