    Negative Outlook

I worked at Lake Superior State University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good if you are just out of Graduate School and need those golden three years of teaching experience.

    Cons

They will regularly ask you to take on responsibilities outside your contracted duties. Forty hours a week is a joke. My Dean insisted I work longer hours even when there was nothing pressing for me to do. Everyone is very disrespectful, especially to women in leadership positions. The entire campus is toxic and departments won't work together. No one is here for the students. They are seen as numbers, both as enrollment and tuition dollars. Many degrees cannot be completed in four years and there is no rush to fix this.

    Advice to Management

The entire administration needs to be sacked. Bring in educators from outside of Michigan to show Lake State how a college is supposed to run.

Not being able to see these folks reach their final goals and ambitions.

I worked at Lake Superior State University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers are nice to work with. Most of the professors are laid back and realize the students have to come first.

    Cons

Politics, toxic culture that has taken hold over the years. Administration truly have no idea what they are doing and make decisions without consulting faculty or students-a prime example of this is the elimination of the 8am classes without gathering feedback first. Administrators know the institution is operating on borrowed time and are spinning their wheels trying to find any possible way to halt the rapid decline in enrollment.

    Advice to Management

Actually consult faculty and students before making a decision that affects everyone. Eradicate the toxic culture that has destroyed this place by acknowledging it and attacking it head on.

I worked at Lake Superior State University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits, flexible lunches, some departments were great to work with despite where I was hired that was very cut throat shortly after I started.

    Cons

Politics, low pay for duties that were demanded. I worked in a very controlling environment with two veteran colleagues that were arrogant and full of themselves. They felt they were above me so I was treated like a kid in school and expected me to learn a large amount of detail in a very short time. It was the most negative experience I've ever had in an office of more than 25 years in the work force. I was basically pushed out of my position by the main boss, which was basically a personal conflict. I wasn't one of her young college graduates to be controlled like a puppet on a string. However, I transferred to another department part time that was very enjoyable and my colleagues and supervisor were pleasant to work with.

    Advice to Management

Be careful how you treat employees, not all can be controlled and negativity isn't how you gain respect.

I have been working at Lake Superior State University part-time

    Pros

This position really allows you to hone in on your critical thinking and communication skills.

    Cons

Upper management could use some help.

    Advice to Management

I'm not sure what to say here.
