I worked at Lake Superior State University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers are nice to work with. Most of the professors are laid back and realize the students have to come first.

    Cons

Politics, toxic culture that has taken hold over the years. Administration truly have no idea what they are doing and make decisions without consulting faculty or students-a prime example of this is the elimination of the 8am classes without gathering feedback first. Administrators know the institution is operating on borrowed time and are spinning their wheels trying to find any possible way to halt the rapid decline in enrollment.

    Advice to Management

Actually consult faculty and students before making a decision that affects everyone. Eradicate the toxic culture that has destroyed this place by acknowledging it and attacking it head on.

I worked at Lake Superior State University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits, flexible lunches, some departments were great to work with despite where I was hired that was very cut throat shortly after I started.

    Cons

Politics, low pay for duties that were demanded. I worked in a very controlling environment with two veteran colleagues that were arrogant and full of themselves. They felt they were above me so I was treated like a kid in school and expected me to learn a large amount of detail in a very short time. It was the most negative experience I've ever had in an office of more than 25 years in the work force. I was basically pushed out of my position by the main boss, which was basically a personal conflict. I wasn't one of her young college graduates to be controlled like a puppet on a string. However, I transferred to another department part time that was very enjoyable and my colleagues and supervisor were pleasant to work with.

    Advice to Management

Be careful how you treat employees, not all can be controlled and negativity isn't how you gain respect.

I have been working at Lake Superior State University part-time

    Pros

This position really allows you to hone in on your critical thinking and communication skills.

    Cons

Upper management could use some help.

    Advice to Management

I'm not sure what to say here.

I have been working at Lake Superior State University part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers are fun to work with. New people coming in quite often. Only open during meal hours so rarely ever miss classes.

    Cons

Management are rude and straight up mean to most of their employees. I work in the QuaterDeck which is the main dining hall on campus and it is awful. Workers are always mad because we most likely just got done getting yelled at by our boss. Not only is this area frusterating to work in, it is also gross. The QuaterDeck has already failed a recent health inspection, and I'm sure will fail another one soon.

    Advice to Management

Make a better culture for your workers. We are students and people with feelings too. We don't want to come to work somewhere where everyone is always mad and we are treated poorly. If you continue to treat your employees poorly, they are going to continue to quit.

I have been working at Lake Superior State University part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I make enough money to buy groceries

    Cons

Staff is completely unhelpful, uncooperative and rude. Students are NEVER put first and the only things that get done are the ones that are easy for staff to accomplish. Ideas and opinions that differ from the norm are never valued or taken seriously. As a student worker I have had few experiences that I believe helped me grow as a student or as an employee.

    Advice to Management

None. This school should be shut down.
