Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Alpharetta, GA

    I have been working at Landis+Gyr full-time

    Pros

Good Work Balance with flexibility to work from home when needed

    Cons

The Alpharetta office have Bibles laying around, in the break room, and in several corners of the office.
Furthermore, in the break room, all you can see in the TV is Fox News, all day long.
I cannot believe that a multicultural, international company, with customers and employees from all over the world allows this type of mindset.

    Advice to Management

Please remove the Bibles and change the channel

    Doesn't Recommend
    Positive Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Landis+Gyr full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good base pay and bonus payout, seem to provide opportunity for advancement and promotion.

    Cons

Work environment is not flexible and is very chaotic, significant turnover, not a family friendly culture.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to what is happening regarding turnover and implement things to help mitigate the turnover (ie reduce chaos, more flexibility/work from home, etc).

    Cons

    Deadlines can be sometimes unrealistic.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Landis+Gyr full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good career options for advancement. Several peers and colleagues have been offered promotions in the past year which is very good for morale.

    Cons

Too many projects at the same time. Most projects are not located in the same general which makes it difficult to visit multiple customers in the same week.

    Advice to Management

Need to limit number of projects and travel expectations. It will also help if the technical resources were assigned to become experts in a limited number of technologies instead of attempting to gain knowledge in all areas.

I have been working at Landis+Gyr full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Exciting, technology driven work in a meaningful industry...no fluff involved.
Great people in the R&D and Product groups: smart, dedicated, hard-working.
Competitive salaries, strong internship & mentoring programs, great benefits.
Good progress is being made in improving software process/risk management.

    Cons

HR folks -- except for a couple of exceptions -- are unresponsive. Requests to get benefits screw-ups fixed are ignored, but staff receive emails banning sandals from the office, spicy food from the break rooms -- pretty ridiculous in the grand scheme of things, so ignored by most employees.
No clear telecommuting policy -- some managers allow regular work-from-home, others don't, so it ends up being grossly unfair, and HR won't address the issue at all. Anyone who asks gets barked at by HR management.
Many decisions are made by people who have never worked in other companies or industries, without a lot of analysis, so frustrating for people who have lots of industry/business experience.

    Advice to Management

Have someone with real world experience 'vet' policies & emails from myopic HR people, to avoid more embarrassment. Look outside the company for people with more industry standard (software) experience, to avoid trying to build all solutions 'ad hoc'.

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Alpharetta, GA

I have been working at Landis+Gyr full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great camaraderie between personnel

Probably has a greater return to company from ex-employees ratio due to generous policy of preserving seniority within a certain time frame.

Offers good Work/Life balance in general

    Cons

Policies concerning opportunities to advance or change to certain groups seem to be cryptic. This appears to be based to some degree on a typical policy of favoritism or other factors over requisite qualifications.

    I worked at Landis+Gyr full-time

    Pros

    Advancement, product, market share, reputation

    Cons

    HR, HR, HR....
Just in time philosophy is isn't
Quality is very suspect, metrics are made according to the QA department but their math is questionable at best

    Advice to Management

Follow through on commitments. Example results of employee survey had very positive suggestions, not one was acted on, HR dropped the ball.
