    Lost its way

Sep 26, 2014 - Sales Representative in Stevens Point, WI

    Pros

The only benefit I took from working at Lands' End Business Outfitters was that I became good friends with a lot of coworkers. Something to keep in mind... a good portion of our employee 'bonding' was discussing all the cons of the business. See below.

    Cons

*The majority of leads are not properly trained and unintelligent. Our bathroom breaks are timed, yet myself and another coworker set a timer once, wherein we timed two leads talking about their vacations during non-break hours. It was a few seconds short of 45 minutes. *Mediocre benefit packages *Little room for advancement (And none if you don't kiss a little butt.) *Clear favoritism *Full of politics. *Shady management. They currently have a lawsuit pending on them for firing an employee using sick hours when he was home with the flu. *Cutting corners money wise, which ultimately is taken from the sales representatives (Bonuses, raises, etc.) *Poorly micromanaged.

    Best place I’ve ever worked.

    Pros

Wonderful company all around. New CEO is making smart changes and elevating the quality of everything from working at Lands End to the quality of products.

    Cons

Some of the people who have been there a long time have issues with change and it effects how they treat others trying to evolve the processes. Managers make timing decisions without including the people on the ground doing the Day to Day work.

    Flexible schedule but horrible benefits.

    Pros

Good coworkers, comer center, cell phone discount, and a wide range of different job opportunities. Lands end also has company wide activities so that provides good networking opportunities.

    Cons

Horrible health insurance, low pay for what you do, favoritism, micromanaging, and lack of communication and leadership skills upon coworkers

If you value career growth, do not work here.

Oct 3, 2016 - Anonymous in Dodgeville, WI

    Pros

Laid back environment, mostly everyone has good values and ethics. I made a lot of genuine friends that I will stay in contact with for a long time. Lands' End does a pretty good job at hiring nice people that work hard and make due. As long as you are not ridiculously stupid, you will maintain your spot here. You can even be exceptionally stupid and hold a spot here that has a lot of 'visibility'! Seriously though, if you are a personable individual with decent skills, you will make it just fine here. *dependent on department you are in The company has a good relocation package. The new interim CEOs, I believe, will put the company back in the right direction.

    Cons

Where to start? 1) Let's start with the fact that if you are anything below a Senior Director here, you will be creating report after report after report until the Senior Directors, VPs, or execs see what they want to see. It doesn't matter how logical you are in your forecast, plan, or assumptions; if it doesn't show the half-baked margin or turn they want to see, it's a waste of time. Trust me, your managers feel the same way. In fact most senior directors also feel the same way, which speaks volumes about LE corporate executives. This could, however, go away with the most recent CEO departure. 2) There's no strategy per the first point above; and if there is, it's coming from the top week after week, changing again and again. No one seems to know the true strategy of this company despite their important, analytical positions within the company. 3) If you want a challenging career where you make legitimate decisions and analysis, refer to points above. Depending on how long you stay here, you are limiting your options post LE. This has to do with the company's lack of technology (most systems 20+ years old), leadership, and structure. The ERP system should help LE, but only if there are people still around that will understand how to use it effectively. 4) No wage increase or bonus in how long? But company morale is just as good as it's ever been? Give me a break. 5) Corporate HQ is located in Dodgeville and a decent portion of its professional work force is old and unwilling to change. Because of this and points above, there are a lot of departments that simply wait to be told what to do when in reality their positions are meant to be analytical positions.

    Pros

The people who work at Lands' End are some the friendliest and most helpful people I've ever met. They immediately make you feel like you are part of the family and this was truly one of the best learning opportunities for people looking to get an insight on the merchandising world. It pays very well for an internship. There are many opportunities to meet executives and ask them questions. There is even a huge intern project that the whole company comes to watch. They truly give you real responsibilities and make you feel like a true employee.

    Cons

The company sells clothes that are not necessarily the most fun to develop. The CEO has many visions, but may be enacting them all too fast for their current target market.

Lands' End Lays off 10% of workforce with one day's notice

Jun 3, 2020 - Account Specialist in Dodgeville, WI

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Lands' End has some nice folks working for them. My manager was great overall. Lands' End has bought into process improvement and is trying. However, their efforts to do so remain disjointed. Few folks seem to work late. Most I met were 9-5ers so there is good work-life balance.

    Cons

Health insurance coverage is some of the worst I've had in my professional career. Expect premiums to be about $220 per month with an $800 deductible for which nothing is covered until you meet the deductible. Senior leadership is out of touch wih its staff. I rarely saw the team leaders from the Outfitters side, including the two director level people below the VP. Leaders value aggressive play for themselves types rather than team builders.

    Pros

Lands' End has a very good benefit program. Good work/life balance.Friendly co-workers and Managers. Stands behind their products and treats their customers and employees well.

    Cons

Very limited opportunities for advancements if you do not want to live in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. Headquarters are located in a very small town.

    Satisfied at Lands' End

    Pros

Really great team members and people at Lands' End. I totally feel part of a group that cares about my individual success/growth as well as aligning to business objectives. Good quality of life...yes, work is high speed, and changes happen, but that keeps it exciting and allows for growth. Great work out facility, onsite health care, backup child care, causal dress code and food on site. Still has some of the community feel, while being a larger corporation.

    Cons

Drive to Dodgeville is a bit lengthy...but beautiful. A little bit "corporate", but that's not unusual. High pressure to be successful (sign of growth).

    Lands' End Creative/Web Internship Experience

    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Lands' End truly goes above and beyond to take care of employees. Coworkers feel like family and everyone gets along very well as a team. Creative/Web Internship taught me a lot about user experience, email marketing and web design as a whole.

    Cons

I can't think of much that was truly a con; their internship experience was fantastic and filed with teamwork and collaboration.
