    Pros

    Cons

Waiting for the elevator to get to the 33rd floor. Honestly, no cons!

I worked at Langan Engineering and Environmental Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Staff was very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. There are opportunities to work on very large projects. Training was very thorough. Hands off management style. Opportunities to learn about all aspects of their business, even if it outside of your department. Free food multiple times a week. Lots of events and volunteer work. Very nice open office space. Good pay. Lunchtime learning seminars and classes are frequently held.

    Cons

The summer I worked there, it seemed that they took on too many interns. There was not enough space and some interns had to use a ping pong table as a desk. I was told they had less work than was expected, and it was a challenge to get people to give me assignments at times. Some project managers acted like they were too busy to talk to you or follow up with you. They were also reluctant to give interns any real responsibility. For a normal employee, none of this would really be an issue

    Advice to Management

    none, great place to work

I worked at Langan Engineering and Environmental Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of talent and innovation. Langan puts an emphasis on quality and constantly strives to take on new markets and to innovate in a competitive industry. Langan also puts an emphasis on recruiting quality hungry talent while also allowing them to shine when major projects are awarded. Training at Langan is also very robust for engineering staff.

    Cons

While the firm is an engineering organization not a lot of credit goes to the support staff, accounting, HR, IT, etc...The often time are what makes the machine move but are very rarely recognized for their contributions.

The burden of a fast paced work environment is visible in the stress levels of management. It was very hard to get time with anyone and push projects through due to the seemingly impossible workload of the principles and associates.

    Advice to Management

Leadership training. Effective management isn't about profitability and billability its about leading your team, motivating them, and making your people happy to be there. Invest in your team. Spend time with them. Let them know they are of value. A lot of the good work at Langan is accomplished by hungry individuals who want to get ahead not because their leadership showed them a path to get there.

I worked at Langan Engineering and Environmental Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They provide a great deal of in house training, continuing education, and seminars. Always have the most up to date technology and software programs. Benefits are above average (health insurance for employee covered at 100%, Friday breakfasts, office parties/lunches/social events, etc). Overtime pay available for engineers.

    Cons

High pressure, high stress, long hours. No work/life balance. The culture there seems to be centered around working until you drop and if something goes wrong, blame someone else. Hard work is never appreciated by management, staff are just dollar signs to them and are otherwise unimportant. Pay is lower than average in comparison to similar firms.

    Advice to Management

Hire a realistic number of engineers to appropriately cover the workload instead of working young college grads to death. Managers needs to show some sort of appreciation to their staff when they put in consistent nights and weekends to make unrealistic project deadlines. Pay a suitable salary.
