I worked at Langan Engineering and Environmental Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Langan is very encouraging of its employees and I worked with some of the best people. They notice hard work and give you opportunities to grow in your field. Considering that this was my first job, I have learnt a lot in my 2.5 years with Langan. The employees are closely knit and I have enjoyed numerous happy hours and outdoor activities with my colleagues.

    Cons

Personally, my experience has been truly positive.

    Pros

Great company and great people. Growing fast. Langan Engineering and Environmental Services is located in several states in the United States and I see that trend growing. I would not discount going internationally as well. If you are a strong performer and hard worker senior management will take care of you. It is nice to work on all kinds of projects from retail to hotel to dams to tunnels. Community service is also a big thing at Langan as we take part in habitat for humanity and in charity walks and runs. Overall it is a good place to work at.

    Cons

Like any company it depends on the group that you are working in. If you have a good PM you should be set up for a great experience. Downsides of working for Langan are that the hours can be tough depending on your PM. If he or she over commits on the projects that can be done it will be a toll on his staff. Since the company is growing so fast there might be a tendency for people to disappear within their own little group where Principals are essentially running their own company. Some times you find people in leaderhsip positions that can manage well but can't really lead.

    Advice to Management

You need to continue taking care of your people and making sure that there are mentorship programs in place for new hires that come in.

I have been working at Langan Engineering and Environmental Services full-time

    Pros

This company gives a lot of responsibility to younger staff. You will be challenged and expected to work hard. They give out bonuses and when times are good (NOT the last 5+ years...) you can make out pretty well. Other firms don't share the wealth like Langan does.

    Cons

There may be field assignments that are far, long and boring. You may feel like you're out there on your own. You may have to work weekends.

    Advice to Management

Involve the younger staff in more than just the work - business development, partnerships, and other discussions could benefit from a diverse conversation.

I have been working at Langan Engineering and Environmental Services full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

For someone who is passionate, hard-working and driven, Langan is a great place for professional and personal growth and reward. It's a very special place with a great culture and dedicated staff.

    Cons

Langan tends to attract very self-motivated individuals who often struggle with work-life balance as a result of their own commitment and drive. Senior management recognizes the importance of work-life balance and continually works to improve the work environment. Sweat shop?...Not even close. Langan employees are passionate about their work and take it very seriously. It's a great place to work!

    Advice to Management

Continue to build-on the strong culture to adapt to the younger generation (the new and future work force).

I have been working at Langan Engineering and Environmental Services full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Langan has some of the best civil, geotechnical, and environmental engineers in the country. The leaders of the firm are not only great engineers, but they are also great leaders and mentors. At Langan you will have the opportunity to work on challenging engineering projects that will impact the world. Langan is a fast-growing company with many opportunities for employees who want to take control of their careers.

    Cons

One of Langan's core values is client responsiveness. This value sometimes results in working long hours to meet a client's construction schedule. At times I have worked 60 to 70 hour weeks to help get a project completed. That being said these long hours have never gone unrecognized. Langan works as a team to get these projects out the door so even though the hours are long, it feels good to work with your peers to accomplish a common goal.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work.

I have been working at Langan Engineering and Environmental Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very well organized and a lot of room to grow. The office is mostly a younger group of engineers/scientists and is an exciting place to work. Everyone is well liked by their co-workers. The demand can be high at times, but it is well understood and appreciated by the managers. Everyone has an opportunity to meet clients, bring in work, and involve themselves in business development and various professional and non-professional organizations. The management is very easy to approach and talk to and is very enjoyable to work for. Management allows its staff a large amount of responsibility with excellent guidance, but never overwhelms you with more than what you can/should be able to handle. The Pittsburgh offic has a small office appeal, with the ability of a major nationally recognized company with significant resorces. This is an excellent place to work and would suggest it to anyone.

    Cons

The "Cons" are consistent with any company an individual may work for, that is to say nothing specific that you wouldn’t have from any other engineering firm.

    Advice to Management

The management is doing a fantastic job with its employees. As long as they continue to compensate well and allow for such significant professional growth, there will be no problems in continuing the progression of this office.

    Pros

at this company the staff get to work on cool, complex, and high profile projects. great place to accelerate your career. the managers involve you in the direct discussions with the client, so you get max exposure and learn the business. they don't pigeonhole you into doing mundane tasks with no background on big picture.

    Cons

having a direct line to clients means full impact of clients demands for quick turnaround and sometimes short notice. this can lead to spikes of long hours. but the managers let you balance it out the next week after deadlines pass ("comp time". leave early, personal day, etc).

    Advice to Management

increase communication to younger staff, to give feedback and listen to feedback from younger staff.
