I worked at Language Services Associates for more than 10 years

    Pros

you don't have to drive to places to interpret. It's on the phone interpreting and you can interpreted anywhere, home, work place, vacation or in your car.

    Cons

The company pay like 20 cent per minute to start. You don't make much money. The longest that I ever interpreted was about 30 minutes. When you are on the phone for about 30 minutes, it starts to hurt your ear. That's the only thing about this company.

I have been working at Language Services Associates

    Pros

You are able to work from home, exposed to many scenarios to enrich your vocabulary. There is no travel necessary nor wardrobe

    Cons

For contractors they pay a per minute rate that each contractor negotiates between them and LSA. However, even though the contract says, "per minute", if your interpretation lasts 59 seconds and not the whole minute, then you don't get paid for the partial minute. You get $0. But the customer is charged for the minute. Every over-the-phone agency I have worked for as a contract interpreter paid the partial minute....

    Advice to Management

Stop lining your pockets on our throats. Start paying for the partial minutes. If I was hired on an hourly rate and worked 59 minutes, you would owe me for the time worked. This is absolutely wrong!

I worked at Language Services Associates for more than a year

      Pros

      You can work from home.

      Cons

While you are working from home and set your time as available for any given amount of time, and you cannot do anything else during that time, you only get paid in cents per minute interpreted. So, you set yourself as available for 4 hours, but you will end up getting paid only about 25% of your available time.

I worked at Language Services Associates full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

There are some great people at LSA. There is flexible scheduling. If you work hard there is room for growth. They are working at having better corporate structure.

      Cons

The small nature of the company limits where you can move around in the company. The vision is often changed abruptly without explanation. Pay isn't competitive.

      Advice to Management

Create a more solid vision of company direction and get more stakeholder involvement. Also the pay needs to be more competitive to retain quality talent.
