I have been working at Largo Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nurses are union, staff is nice, great teamwork.

    Cons

Lack of supplies, management isn't great.

    Advice to Management

Stop letting other departments treat the nurses poorly.

I worked at Largo Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Multiple subspecialities allowing for monthly rotations for students and resident. This allowed for increased learning due to fellows being able to give another layer of lectures.

    Cons

Not very academic centered; lack of morning report or time spent on evidence based practices/literature. Could use more teaching attending physician lectures.

I worked at Largo Medical Center full-time

    Pros

Co-workers are the best thing about the company.

    Cons

    •Snobby management
•Supplies to actually do your job are minimum and you have to walk around the whole hospital to find them
•Workload is almost unattainable, unless patient load is below average
•Patient load is double, sometimes triple what it should be
•Work/life balance is off kilter because your days off are recovering

I worked at Largo Medical Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Floor manager was great and very professional, called to check progress often.

    Cons

Very bad culture, they eat up the young nurses instead of making them grow.very hateful and unwilling to teach.

    Advice to Management

Pick your preceptor wisely, they determine if your newly hired staff stay or leave.

I have been working at Largo Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy. Will train if needed. Really hard to get in trouble. Extremely easy-going nursing and other clinical staff. Good pay rate.

    Cons

Terrible doctors, unsafe for patients, horrendous management that only cares about their bottom line and not at all about patient care. I would NEVER bring my family here for care.

    Advice to Management

We, on the front lines, are burning out faster than orientation lasts. Please treat your employees better by providing us with the tools and staffing we need to succeed and that our patients need to survive. You will not retain quality employees until you start treating them with the respect they deserve.

I worked at Largo Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Employees, they are the ones who are essentially keeping that place afloat.

    Cons

Leadership is there and there for one reason only, for profit. To ensure they work their employees into the ground and provide any care or show any consideration other than compassion. Largo Medical Center is a revolving door not only of patients but of employees who are overworked, underpaid, disrespected and abused. Someone posted above that working there gave them PTSD, I wouldn't put it any other way, it is a traumatizing experience at the least to work there. And, don't bother addressing your complaints with higher administration or their corporate office, they work diligently and together to cover up their incompetencies. Horrible work environment, if you value and have respect for yourself, do NOT work there.

    Advice to Management

    Learn how to manage. Effectively.

I worked at Largo Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Well, there's always work to go around at Largo Medical Center.

    Cons

It's a Company that's trying to learn how to be a Hospital, not the other way around. They have ambitious growth ideas but they systematically implement before they prepare, which is very stressful on employees and patients, and results in high turnover and chaos. I have so much post traumatic stress disorder, as a former employee I'll never step foot in that place again.

    Advice to Management

Management is really the issue at Largo. The employees are great, at least in my department, with some wonderful and successful Surgeons. But they need to learn to prepare for new implementations, and do what a normally functioning company does. Invest in your employees, train them, give them what they need to do their jobs. And take personal responsibility for running your department well. Reduce the chaos and quit stressing your employees to the max to just shove as many patients through as you can.
