    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Lasell College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lasell is a great liberal arts school that allows and encourages for staff and faculty to continue profession pursuits, professional development, and further both the educational platform in which they teach and the student's understanding of the world

    Cons

The only con I see as a professor is the lack of performing arts based degrees for students who wish to have a more specific minor/second major in a particular art form

    Advice to Management

Expand the possibilities for students to be engaged in the arts and learn music, visual art, without forcing students to choose between their major concentrations and other pursuits.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Lasell College full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lasell has a great location, just outside of Boston - easy to get to from many areas of New England

    Cons

Depending on what division you work in, there are little opportunities for growth/promotion

    Pros

    Total freedom for adjunct professors.

    Cons

That freedom comes with a price: You will be given zero - that's ZERO - input from the department head and 90 percent of other professors will ignore you or be completely unhelpful. Organization is a joke. One year after I left, I received an e-mail from my department head asking why I hadn't shown up on the first day of the new semester. I had to email her and tell her I left a year earlier. She blamed the mistake on her sabbatical, but a sabbatical can't write my name into a schedule.

    Advice to Management

Hire people who are effective administrators in addition to being academics. Pay adjuncts a living wage - the hours you put in planning, teaching, and grading mean you'll earn less than minimum wage in the end.

I have been working at Lasell College full-time

    Pros

Great small group of student-focused faulty/staff-members that take the time to get to know the students.

    Cons

Lean budgets, stifling senior management that represses staff members with the "we've always done it this way" mentality.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the concerns of staff members in student affairs about repressive working conditions.

    Pros

Such a great small group of people that take the time to get to know students and other employees. Very close-knight and easy to join the team. Everyone helps one another.

    Cons

Some clients can be rude and impatient, but that's the same as anywhere

    Advice to Management

You guys do a great job listening to students and employees giving them what they want, no advice

I worked at Lasell College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There's a high level of autonomy in writing your syllabus and planning what you're going to teach in whichever classes you've been assigned. There are two or three students per semester who are really engaged.

    Cons

The pay is a pittance. If you don't have a full roster of students (through no fault of your own) they'll try to cut your pay claiming that the money offered you was for a "full" course load of at least 18 students. Adjuncts get mostly intro courses, and students don't care about them (they're generally requirements). The flip side of the autonomy is that there is ZERO feedback from department heads. Many of the other professors I dealt with were not interested in helping adjuncts. Students gripe about their grades after doing the absolute bare minimum work required.

    Advice to Management

Make yourself available to the part-time adjuncts who are teaching the bulk of your courses. It's really disheartening to be told time and time again yo don't have time to talk but how about next week?

I have been working at Lasell College part-time

    Pros

Great environment and a very interesting catalogue of classes to choose from to teach. The students are very driven and keep you motivated to go in there and do your best work.

    Cons

The online teaching platform is hard to get used to and sometimes difficult for students to communicate on...

    Advice to Management

Work with IT to figure out ways to make the Moodle easier to use for teachers and students.
