I have been working at Lattice Semiconductor full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Lynda.com training is available to the entire company and training (at least 40 hours per year) is encouraged. Choice of Mac or PC is nice.

    Cons

Lattice Semiconductor is the kind of place where you go in, get the work done and go home. I wouldn't say it is a fun place to work.

    Advice to Management

I don't really have any advice.

    Pros

In general, and especially below the VP level, there are good people dedicated to the product and the success of the company.

    Cons

Most of the senior execs are beholden to an ego-driven CEO and won't rock the boat even when they know he's making another big mistake. The Board is spineless and is unwilling to hold him accountable for serial strategic errors and the overall dismal performance of the company, so the littler guys get the blame. Sad end to a once very interesting and dynamic company.

    Advice to Management

Remember how to make FPGAs or find another CEO who does.

I worked at Lattice Semiconductor (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The company's key asset is their employees, generally from Directors on down and some VPs who were "home grown". The people are smart, friendly, and helpful. However, due to recent many RIFs, many are keeping information close to their vest for their own protection, but not to the point of not being helpful.

    Cons

Upper management outside of the population I mentioned in the PROS, Directors on down and some VPs who were "home grown", you'd have to make sure you're on "their side of the fence", otherwise you will be part of the short straws during turmoil time. The current executive team seems to be looking out more so for themselves now with the rumor that the company has been on the shopping blocks since late last year.

    Advice to Management

Decide whether or not you're going to continue to make the products successful. Don't leave these loyal employees hanging for their last years. I started with this company when it was a small startup and would still love to see Lattice be successful once again. But it takes full commitment and a solid product strategy and execution of that strategy to completion. Take advantage of the Agile methodologies and make on-time course corrections to meet market demands as product development schedule unfolds.

    Pros

Challenging technical issues to overcome. Flat organization, easy access to people and information.

    Cons

Process and feedback loops are a rarity. Applications and tech support have their work cut out for themselves.

    Advice to Management

"Run fast" is a recipe for "stumble fast."

I have been working at Lattice Semiconductor full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Awesome people, particularly below Director level. Competitive benefits including 401k match and commuter program. Facilities and offices well designed, well maintained

    Cons

If you are female or non-white, you will not advance past middle engineering or management levels. Company is struggling to be profitable and truly integrate after purchase of Silicon Image - so bonus and raise don't exist. Worst, they tolerate some truly awful managers - people are fleeing in droves right now

    Advice to Management

Listen to people! Get rid of the bad managers, especially at high levels - they are running morale and driving good talent away.

I worked at Lattice Semiconductor full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Management values process. Execution is systematic.
Plenty of training classes tailored for team building.
Top management is easily accessible/available for communication.
If you want to go up managerial ladder or improve managerial skill. I would recommend this company.
You can learn a lot from your bosses, colleagues and from the courses the company offers.

    Cons

Too much procedures to follow. Too bureaucratic.
Many training courses tailored for team building and productivity are made mandatory. Courses are like how to resolve conflict at work with colleague, how to build leadership ...etc.
If you want to go up technical ladder. I would not recommend this company. The top management value and focus more on management / process than technical expertise. You will not have time to satisfy your strong desire to in-depth technical skills/knowledge. In yearly focal reviews, you are required to spend meaningful amount of time writing so-called "360 feedbacks" for 5~10 of your colleagues.
At last, the business is tough. Company has been searching for new direction. Low visibility to future. That is a big uncertainly.
