I worked at Laura Mercier Cosmetics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Gratis, Great account execs, the people, the clients were great.

    Cons

High sales pressure, sometimes what the executives wanted didn't always correspond to the department store needs but I don't think that is their fault.

    Advice to Management

    Nothing.

    Pros

Nice pay for retail, you get to work independently to make connections and build relationships with customers. You get a lot of free products from the brand.

    Cons

In slow days they want you to be on the phone calling customers to make appointments or asking them if they need to replenish any product. Sometimes the sales goals are high and you get a lot of pressure to achieve them. Long hours standing can also be challenging. Some customers want their makeup done and don't buy anything and you can not try to convince them to buy even though you have spent your time with them and have a goal to achieve.

    Advice to Management

Micromanagement! And some managers need to get better training to be more helpful and supportive to employees.

I worked at Laura Mercier Cosmetics (Less than a year)

    Pros

The products are great and high quality, so you don't feel like you're lying to customers. The pay is decent and overall, management could be a lot worse. It might not be the steady income long term, but it is a pretty good company to work for.

    Cons

Can be harder to generate sales at certain locations and hours fluctuate greatly.

    Advice to Management

Cross promote so freelancers can work in multiple stores (for ex, Sephora and Nordstrom). Educational incentives and workshops would also help retain employees.

I have been working at Laura Mercier Cosmetics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The trainers and global artists are very nice and professional. If all else fails, you'll always have tinted moisturizer and translucent powder to sell.

    Cons

There are a lot of upper management issues in this company. Very high management turnover and the left hand doesn't seem to know what the right hand is doing. Partner that with lack of advertising, poorly designed and cheap packaging that literally falls apart and some very mediocre products and you have a recipe for disaster. They have a very difficult time keeping up with trends which in the ever changing cosmetics industry renders them obsolete. When they try (desperately) to catch up, the products they come up with are usually a fail that's not up to par with the competition.

    Advice to Management

Study your competition and learn from their success.

Great products! The company's philosophy is universal and something everyone can get behind. There is always something to do to keep busy.

Retailer is challenging to work for. There are constant changes in management so nothing is ever consistent. Your experience really depends on where you work and what your position is.
