I have been working at Lawnwood Medical Center (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is above average in my opinion for this area. Staff works well as a team for the most part.

    Cons

Management seems to not know what is going on at all times. Does not show appreciation for staff. No room for growth due to management not understanding what goes on within the department.

I have been working at Lawnwood Medical Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great coworkers, very open and inviting CEO and senior team. They listen and take action. I really get to practice real nursing. Patient load: depends on acuity. Will get extra if they are not heavy but less if they have more issues... The way it's supposed to be. Quality department is very involved with teaching us how to drive the hospital toward best practice and safety.

    Cons

This is a trauma center so not everyone can handle the complexity.

    Advice to Management

I get to make a huge difference in the lives of the the sickest patients in the region. The current CEO is not Rodney as listed. Greg is very involved and has made incredible improvements. He listens to our concerns and holds the medical staff accountable. I have been here 15 years. Sure, every facility has issues but this one has improved every year, especially the last few years. I've learned throughout my 20 year career... There's a bigger picture that a lot of people don't see.

I worked at Lawnwood Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Only area trauma center, decent cath lab

    Cons

Not much funding means poor staffing (ie, med/surg 8-9:1 at times, and ICU 3:1). Sub par equipment. Directors are stretched few and far between. More directors and supervisors there have had strokes, MI's, or major health issues than I have ever seen, largely due to the stresses of their jobs. Unsafe nurse ratios.
