I have been working at Lawson Products (Less than a year)

    Pros

Forward looking leadership with a solid plan in place.

    Cons

Many people have worked for the company for 20+ years, and are not always able to keep up with the progress the leadership wants to implement.

    Advice to Management

Loyalty should be rewarded, but senior employees should be expected to perform in the same, if not greater capacity, than newer employees. Just because someone has done the same job for 20 years does not make that job indispensable.

I have been working at Lawson Products full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You make your own schedule which allows you a lot of freedom. There are uncapped commissions with unlimited earning potential.

    Cons

Corporate offices can't seem to make their mind up about which direction they want to take the company in. They are constantly hiring new reps which only floods the territories, along with it seeming like there are thousand things about the company but you only know what your manager wants you to know. Company seems to want to be more price-competitive are the reps expense, i.e. less commissions. You use your own car, pay for your own gas, and they require you to carry boat loads of insurance on your own vehicle which costs you even more money.

    Advice to Management

Pick a direction and stick to it. Let all of your reps know the ins and outs of the company, it will only help then gain more business which will in turn help the company. It's one thing if you want to be more competitive and charge less for a product but the company should take a hit along with your reps... they're the ones that can't afford it.

Managers are genuine and seem to care

    Cons

No company credit card for gas, customer dinners etc. only managers get them.
No car allowance unless you are a new hire and it's only temporary.
Hard to make much money with all your expenses.

    Advice to Management

Pay People a good salary and KEEP IT. Pay more than 250 bucks for a temp. vehicle allowance and keep it. Your only going to get long term employees if you invest in them long term.

I have been working at Lawson Products full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Make your own schedule
    Not in an office everyday
    Meet lots of great people
On the road to a new place everyday

    Cons

    Cutting Benefits
    Cutting bonus' and commissions
    Raising prices on all products
Corporate office has priced us out of the market and its hard to be competitive with so many other choices out there
We used to have superior products but due to cost cutting measures and change in manufactures our quality is way down from what it once was.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees more than the stockholders/investors. Raising prices and cutting commission's has never been a way to drive growth and create revenue. It creates turnover and maybe that is the cost-cutting measure they are looking for.
