I worked at Layered Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great people, excellent security protocols.

    Cons

Not enough staff on the ground to deliver quality. No hard and fast rules for sales products, sometimes they sold things not developed yet. Hard to deliver what doesn't exist. C-level execs never established VP responsibilities; lots of management bickering.

    Advice to Management

You sold it, but a clear strategy and a steady hand would have sold it more profitably much earlier.

I have been working at Layered Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Laid back, no micro-managing, casual atmosphere

    Cons

Sad I have to look for a new job but there wasn't room for growth/advancement. Haven't gotten a raise in 2 years, not even a cost of living raise, because they couldn't afford it. Employee benefits were terrible

    Advice to Management

It all seemed to go downhill once Todd Abrams lost control of the company due to the investors. The board decided on bringing in Jack Finlayson who changed the business model and made it seem like the company was doing fine. He finally gave up and Bruce Chatterley took over. Then it went to total crap. He sold Layered Tech to Datapipe and I'm pretty sure he did not made any profit (good!). He didn't even try to resurrect the company. He held it together with tape until he could rid himself of LT. It's a shame.

I have been working at Layered Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people, relaxed atmosphere, had some great times working here. In the beginning, there were lots of fun team building exercises and holiday activities. We had a big team that got along well and I have stayed here many years because I love the people I work with.

    Cons

Then there were a few rounds of mass layoffs and the atmosphere turned dark and bitter. Lots of promises and positive words that never panned out. Sadly in the end the company fell in on it self. We are now owned by Datapipe and will be let go in March. I do appreciate how Datapipe has worked with us so far leading up to the March exit date.

    Advice to Management

To Datapipe management, hope you take whats left of LT and do something good with it.

I worked at Layered Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Worked with some talented people at LT.
    There isn't much micromangement.
They let you do you work without bothering you much.

    Cons

    Work can seem very siloed.
Collaboration between team members was scarce. Not a great place to learn.

Trying to obtain information/documentation in order to do your job can be extremely difficult to say the least .
Place was in need of a complete revamp top to bottom. I was discovering "new" broken things on a daily basis at times.
Despite being a 24x7 environment, they run the place like a mom-and-pop shop.
Some people go into the office, go home and may be expected to do a task or be called because the company can't figure out how to schedule people across a 24x5 work schedule--not to mention weekends.
When I first started it was incredibly hard not to allow the chaos of work to bleed into my time or personal life. It didn't seem like there was any distinct separation between work vs. time off; it was just their time and if you had time off it's coincidental.

Hopefully Datapipe can make something of the company.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees.
It's not worth much saying this with DP taking over--- but take a look at your system and processes, because it isn't working. If you're not trying to manage or resolve them, resign.

I have been working at Layered Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are no pros. They sold the company after they promised to invest in us and grow us over the next three years.

    Cons

The cons are they sold the company and our positions are being eliminated.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to manage a company. Hopefully you never find management positions again but if you do; I hope you do not run another company into the ground and cost people their jobs.

I learned a lot, but it was by working over 60 hours a week and usually a 24 hour day once a month.

    Cons

not being able to go on vacation cause I wouldn't have cell phone service, no regards for you or your family. Horrible Benefits

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Take a look out on the floor and you will see amazing talent....
With former CEO (JF), it was striving and aggressive in growth...

    Cons

Take a look out on the floor and you will see amazing talent... Under Paid and slaughtered for their loyalty.
CEO/COO = Sell Up and make some money with bully styles.

    Advice to Management

Believe in the people. Seattle isn't the only place in the world... SpeakEasy was a success, but thats over now, be humbled to the challenges and HELP LT be more successful. And for goodness sake, stop the battle field promotions that make zero sense. People see right through them.

    Pros

People are great to work with at manager level.

    Cons

New mgmt are inexperienced and execs think their work force are minions there to slug their guts out for terrible pay

    Advice to Management

Hire someone that can lead and not promote seniors into battle field promotions when they were all you had...
