I worked at Lazard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great brand name within finance. Amazing office location. Nice offices. Hard to come up with 20 words of positivity.

    Cons

Intense, unfriendly environment day to day. Unsupportive of time off of ANY kind. Neurotic senior management with unreasonable expectations -- armies of Miranda Priestlys. Multiple people had mental breakdowns/hospitalizations from exhaustion due to overworking, and management + HR still turned a blind eye. Bonuses are minuscule compared to other places on the street. It's just not worth it.

    Advice to Management

Acknowledge fellow employees -- even a hello on the elevator from time to time would be an improvement to current status quo, stop turning a blind eye to the ridiculous turnover and miserable work environment. Other banks are making positive lifestyle changes for mid and junior level bankers, and meanwhile you think you can rely on your brand name when banks more prestigious than you are stealing all the top young talent.

    Pros

You get to work on large deals and your clients are Fortune 100 players. The firm is recognized as a very focused investment bank that is able to provide objective advisory guidance.

    Cons

The culture is terrible. Everyone works on weekends and there is no work life balance. You are expected to be available at all hours of the day and all weekends. You will sit in the office waiting for comments until late hours of the night. Limited training and limited career guidance.

    Advice to Management

You should invest more in your career development programs to be able to attract top talent and retain it.

I worked at Lazard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Semi-Flexible Schedule, unlimited sick days (as long as you don't abuse it).

    Cons

The management has everything backwards. I worked within IT, and got a clear view of how backwards the priority's of the company were. In It "User Satisfaction" was the main objective, but all priority was put on quick response to calls and emails, and not on prevention of system issues, like say redundancy in critical systems. Even after Hurricane Sandy which crippled most of the company's IT infrastructure, there are Nepotism ran rampant, so if you were somebodies friend, you could get away with murder.

Outside of IT (you get to see a lot as a tech), there's more nepotism (like "secretaries" that have no idea how to use Microsoft office), and a lot of unprofessional conduct. So called higher ups acting like spoiled children and trying to pass their work off on others (like asking tech support to edit documents for them). The analysts/research guys get absolutely abused. I often worked on issues for people who consistently was pushed to a point where they were working 8am to 4am the next morning. The lower levels of the company are not the place to be. Sadly most promotions are based not on how good you are, but how much butt you kiss.

    Advice to Management

Worker moral is the biggest element to success, don't ignore it. A house cleaning is needed to clear out the people who suck the life out of the company. Give people a chance to shine.

    I worked at Lazard full-time

    Pros

Management in the accounting dept is super talented at filing papers with the use of color-coordinated tab.

    Cons

For most 16-year-olds, obtaining their driver's license is an important milestone. Most in the accounting department have yet to achieve this milestone. Let's not discuss competency in accounting, one needs to learn to walk before one can even consider running.
