I worked at Lazard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great deal flow, interesting projects, opportunities to enhance learning and become promoted, great mobility between locations (strong support from HR)

    Cons

High turnover rate among analysts which created burden and pressure on rest of team to pick up the work. Too little associates compared to number of VPs which sometimes meant lack of guidance and efficiency from management

    Advice to Management

Foster guidance among analysts, create a positive learning experience, more hands-on in providing feedback and opportunities for improvement

I worked at Lazard (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great exposure to senior deal makers, lean deal teams create intense learning environment, constantly busy, good brand name on resume

    Cons

Junior bankers are treated like a commodity. Deadlines are often fake and can leave junior bankers pulling unnecessary long hours. Culture needs drastic change. Pays below street

    Advice to Management

Treat junior bankers with more respect via culture changes and better pay.

I worked at Lazard as an intern

    Pros

Great pay and great career prospects

    Cons

Worked around the clock! No work life balance

    Advice to Management

People will be more creative and productive if they've had a little sleep. There is obvious anecdotal evidence of this, but the science backs it too!

I worked at Lazard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Allows people to do things other companies would not

    Cons

Too many hours of working on my own time with no acknowledgement. Unless you work in banking the pay is very low in comparison to other Wall Street firms. Too many senior managers that do nothing but cover their ass, they do not listen to those that actually might know something about what the company could do better

    Advice to Management

Bring more women into senior management and listen to what people have to say.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Lazard as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

just having a job, great kitchen, most of the employees are a wonderful people

    Cons

Blind leading the blind is a right expression here. IT department is ran by people that have non of the managerial insight, they do not know how to run things, they do not have any managerial education, they don't listen to what people telling them, they are heartless and blind. Everything is ran around ranks, strangely enough a lot of people in management get away with only 20 minutes of work per day all the meanwhile bashing their employees that they do not perform up to the par. Everything is holding itself on glue. No matter how hard you work, this company with not take it in to the account. You can stay there day and night , even work on your own time and still you will have a performance issue that the management can not explain.

    Advice to Management

Many of the managing directors and directors that I have helped are wonderful people, but unfortunately many more act like animals. My advise it to be more human, and if need be please read management for dummies.

    Pros

Lazard is a great place to cut your teeth for a few years. You earn a great name on the resume and work with some of the most intelligent and technical people in finance.

    Cons

The culture of the firm is tough. There is a touchy-feely French culture that is a carryover from its legacy as a French bank.
