I worked at Lazard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great brand name within finance. Amazing office location. Nice offices. Hard to come up with 20 words of positivity.

    Cons

Intense, unfriendly environment day to day. Unsupportive of time off of ANY kind. Neurotic senior management with unreasonable expectations -- armies of Miranda Priestlys. Multiple people had mental breakdowns/hospitalizations from exhaustion due to overworking, and management + HR still turned a blind eye. Bonuses are minuscule compared to other places on the street. It's just not worth it.

    Advice to Management

Acknowledge fellow employees -- even a hello on the elevator from time to time would be an improvement to current status quo, stop turning a blind eye to the ridiculous turnover and miserable work environment. Other banks are making positive lifestyle changes for mid and junior level bankers, and meanwhile you think you can rely on your brand name when banks more prestigious than you are stealing all the top young talent.

    Pros

You get to work on large deals and your clients are Fortune 100 players. The firm is recognized as a very focused investment bank that is able to provide objective advisory guidance.

    Cons

The culture is terrible. Everyone works on weekends and there is no work life balance. You are expected to be available at all hours of the day and all weekends. You will sit in the office waiting for comments until late hours of the night. Limited training and limited career guidance.

    Advice to Management

You should invest more in your career development programs to be able to attract top talent and retain it.

    Pros

Smart, interesting, and hardworking people; Good interaction with senior management

    Cons

Very demanding, may lack some of the valuable resources you would be afforded at a bulge bracket

    Advice to Management

encourage more mobility for younger people, not that easy to rise through the ranks

    Pros

The company has great medical and over all give you a break. The company treats you lie family.

    Cons

does not promote from within. No one is clearly objective. Some management in place clearly play favorites and does not like their authority challlangr. Most important there are no reviews given, only when needed.

    Advice to Management

Within corporate, (finance) management should consider review of employees. Remove the subjective element. The should be consistent evaluations and recommends for promotion presented to 3 people who are not part of the candidate work environment.

    Pros

Great place to grow and start your career

    Cons

This is not a place to stay, it's best described as a stepping stone to bigger and better things.

    Advice to Management

You should value the employees who are the most loyal. There is a great deal of talent within the firm who are continuously overlooked for promotions every year.

I worked at Lazard full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You will get a lot of experience across all functions of an investment banker, because you are on a deal team that is smaller than what is typical for bulge brackets (basically 2-4 people vs 3-6 at a bulge bracket).
Pay on par with bulge brackets.

    Cons

Culture is sometimes corrosive and could be improved.
Analysts and associate work very long hours. The company has not announced a policy for analysts/associate that allows them to take some weekends off (even though competitors like Goldman and BAML have).

    Advice to Management

Improve the culture, try to keep up with bulge brackets in terms of work/life balance.

    Pros

Lazard is very well positioned in the investment banking and asset management businesses which makes lazard a great and stable place to work

    Cons

There are few cons as the work life balance is good, pay is generally fair but not better than average, and the environment is relatively flat which is good

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up
